it's not out yet but it leaked weeks ago. it's kind of like a culmination of all their post-Embryonic noisy stuff

Are you saying that because technically it will be new songs on the same album? They're recording I believe 15 new songs and re-releasing the other songs. That may as well be a new album, one I'm very excited about.

I hadn't heard anywhere that it was nearly that many new songs. And they've been very strong on their "We're not releasing another album" stance, which is why I said that. I'd be happy with a new album, I'm just not anticipating it happening.

Well, the new Youth Lagoon album is pretty good (I'm 4/5 of the way through), but it's not as much as I was hoping for. One of the things I loved about The Year of Hibernation was how fragile and simple and honest it sounded, and the big production and increased psychedelia and more instrumentation on Wondrous Bughouse take that away. It'll probably grow on me though.

Marnie Stern is kind of cool. It starts off like "what?" and then it gets catchy.

Oh is that out? I've never listened to her but I read something or something a while ago and was like "Oh, I should listen to that when it comes out."

This Thurston Moore Chelsea Light Moving thing is pretty decent.

Most of the way through the first quarter, so here are some thoughts on a few of the things I've heard:

-My Bloody Valentine - m b v: This was ok. I think that high expectations ruined it for me. Maybe I'll have a better grasp on actual quality later in the year when I inevitably revisit for list making.

-Yo La Tengo - Fade: Again, ok. Probably better. I know when it is on I enjoy it a bunch, but don't remember much of it afterward. The best part about it is that it is more concise than their past couple which really seems contrary to what I just wrote.

-MV & EE - Fuzzweed: If you like them, you'll like this. Better than last year's album, less than Country Stash from two years ago. Like most of their work, it is meandering in the best way. Like most of their work, would probably be really appealing in an altered state. Unlike most of their work, there are like drum machine claps on one track and I'm ok with that.

-Maxmillion Dunbar - House of Woo: Well mannered house. Really great, but I don't know if any of ya will like it. "Ice Room Graffiti" is in the early running for my favorite track of the year.

-Dragon Boy Suede - Douche Minutiae: Appropriately silly. Kremer is kinda brilliant, but I'm not sure you'll be convinced if you aren't already a fan.

I'm looking forward to listening to this. The two song pitchfork posted sound pretty good. I'm always in favor of artists expanding their sound (except Mountain Goats)
