So I ordered a Rockbox Boiling Point and it came today. This thing not only looks awesome but sounds killer as well.



I first hooked it up to my dry clean setting on my egnater rebel 30

Already I could tell how sweet this overdrive would be. It's amazing!!! I can't describe the feel and sound of this, but I love overdrive pedals. I think this one really outperforms most of the OD pedals I've tried. I also just got a Bogner Ecstasy Blue in December, but that is a completely different OD.

The Bogner is great on the clean channel as a boost with slight breakup. Bogner Blue into Boiling Point should be illegal!

I really like this OD pedal because it allows my amp to shine without getting crazy. This pedal is great over the clean channel but makes me feel like the worlds greatest guitar player based on the tone I get on the dirty channel. The settings are extremely dynamic and I can hear the difference in every adjustment I make and they aren't crazy different from each other, just very slight.

I got this over the Red Dog or Baby Blues because I like the dynamics better. The Baby Blues is interesting because of it's dynamics, but I feel like for the area of tone the Baby Blues covers really can get equal tone or close enough with cheaper pedals. The Boiling Point is Hot! It can be really slight clean boost or actually pretty heavy gain. It's not a metal pedal by any means, but this thing gets enough distortion for me. I am playing over my amp's dirty channel anyway. The sound you get really depends on your amp, but this thing can make any amp shine. I play mostly in my room for peace and stress relief so tone is something I really enjoy finding sweet spots. Live, I don't think many people care what your tone sounds like as long as it's in the ball park.

I don't think I would ever sell this pedal. I'll probably buy more different OD pedals in the future. I would only have 3 max on my board at a time, but the Boiling point will stay there forever. Also, I'm getting another after NAMM. I'm going to run duals. One into the other like how some folk run 2 tubescreamers and such. The Bogner was bought for something else but that probably won't leave my board either. I know people think I should just get something else or another pedal given that this pedal is way expensive. but I had a chat with Mr. Campbell about the Boiling Point and I am going have a special order after he finishes the NAMM show. So look forward to that as well, but I don't think (at least at this point) that I need to invest in the Red Dog or Baby Blues.

if you want a really great OD that wont break your bank, try the CMAT MODS signa. might not be a boiling point but i bet you its atleast half as good for 1/4 the price.

I really like the clean on the egnater, especially with the bright and tight switches. The rockbox sounds way better than the bogner blue over the 2nd channel as well. not too huge of a fan of the 2nd channel with gain all the way up on the amp though... maybe with a tube switch though....

Yes, it is a TS variant. It's an 808, with diode switching. Unless you know how to add your own choice of buffers etc, ALL off-the-shelf-priced point TSs sucks the big one.

Well, it's circuit is a pretty much a tubescreamer with changed component values and it has the clipping options.

I don't know what those changes are exactly. I know next to nothing of that stuff. While I could buy a tubescreamer build kid, I would not be able to build it myself.

So, yeah it's a clone, but way different from the original. I've played a lot of tubescreamers and variants and they don't get the same sound as this does. And, yeah... the paint job probably increases the price by $75 bucks or so. But come on! Next to the sound, the paint job is probably it's second selling point (the sound/tone still being number one). Don't knock it until you've tried it. This thing is amazing.

I have looked at a lot of other boutique OD pedals before buying this. The only one I didn't get to try that was on my list was the Klon KTR. I know some folks out here with a silver and gold but they didn't do what I was looking for.

I'm not going to lie though, the Rockett Blue Note is still on my list. And I love the Earthquaker Devices White Light, but this one is just way awesome. Just different and does exactly what I want it to do with little effort on my part.
