Guitar Center salesmen tried to sell me something.

Also, the ridiculous shredders you inevitably see in guitar shops.

And I mean ridiculous in the worst way possible.

I've pretty much just been in one, a Guitar Center. One event was a worker soloing terribly and loudly while talking to customers. The other was some fat redneck coming in and blasting Sweet Home Alabama as loud as possible for 5 minutes and then buying the generic Les Paul that was like $4000.

I was asking about how exactly the Polytune tuning pedal worked, and the guy looked at me confused, then explained how to plug it in, plug your guitar in, and then send the signal to the amp or next pedal in the chain.

My friend and I just kinda looked at each other in disbelief. Guitar Center sucks.

I played the infamous Ab2F#Cmsus8 chord and snapped every string simultaneously on a £4500 Gibson. In standing up to say sorry, the neck snapped.

I was a newb to guitar and the salesman didn't try to sell me a Line 6 Spider or BC Rich. Instead he led me to buy a suitable Epi SG Special and a Roland Cube 15.

Nothing for me, but while he was trying an acoustic, my friend (Reisgar42) got asked by some kid "Is it anything like a Stratocaster?"

'Nuff said.

>One time at Guitar Center, a friend and I were looking around at basses. I picked one up and plugged it in to an amp that was already on. I couldn't get any sound to come out, being the gear idiot that I am. After about 10 minutes, an employee came up and informed me that someone before me had turned the amp to "mute," so it wouldn't work even with the volume up. It's funny, cause it's the one time a GC employee has been helpful. And because I'm stupid.
>A story from the other guitarist in my band: He went to buy us strings one time, and for recording, he wanted the heaviest thing we could put on our guitars for recording. He asked for the heaviest strings they had, and when the employee handed him the strings, another employee said, "Duuuuude. Those are heavy. I mean, those are really heavy, man. Oh man, those are heavy, oh man, what kind of guitar are you playing? I mean, man, those are heavy."
>Not in a guitar shop, but I feel it's still relevant: One time a few years ago I was hanging around a Guitar Hero competition at the local fair. I picked up a controller at the booth and started playing on "expert," cause, yknow, it's easy. Some kid, maybe a year or two younger than me with a super nasally voice that made him sound like a stereotypical nerd in a stereotypical 80s movie/tv show, came up to me and was like "Wow, you play on expert!?" so I replied, "Uh, yeah." To which he replied, "That's a lot like really guitar, right?!"

I went into a music store to buy a violin and the person in the store was telling me the details about one, but the funny thing about it is she sounded exactly like Sarah Palin and said, "dontcha know" a lot.

That's all I've got.
