Hey, I've been thinking about getting a new electric recently. Since I've started playing guitar I've been playing on an Ibanez SA-220 and while I like it, I want to get a more "bluesy" guitar but the problem is I don't have a big budget (about 350€). I've been looking around and I've singled out 2 guitars that I think might suit my needs and just looking for some advice from people who know their guitars.

I love ES335's, but I'd probably go for the Les Paul. My buddy has a sunburst that plays nice.

can you stretch a little? thomann is blowing out the japanese-made fender pawn shops for a little more. I haven't tried them but i've tried enough MIJ guitars to know they're probably a really good deal at that price, and will most likely be far nicer guitars than those epiphones (when they were released they were about double the price they're going for now).

granted they're more fendery than gibsony if you want gibsony. depends on what you mean by "bluesy", really. you could argue that both fenders and gibsons are bluesy...

Hmmm I might be able to stretch a bit for the 51, I take it it's a better value than the ones I posted then? What about the Epiphone ES339 Pro, I read some good things about that and it's in my price range as well?

The 339 Pro is a very nice budget instrument, though, like many guitars, it would benefit from a pickup swap. I own one and have nothing but good things to say about it in terms of value and construction. If you have any specific questions about the 339, I'm happy to answer them.

The only thing I don't dig about those Pawnshops is the lack of a pickup selector, but that's mostly because I transition quickly from lead to rhythm on a lot of my material.

yeah probably. normally japan's a couple of notches up the food chain from where the epis are made.

+1. I got my MIJ Mustang off Thomann last month and it's such a neat guitar for the price they were selling them for (around €450). The '72 would suit your situation best, if they still have them in stock.
