which should be my next amp?
Hi guys! I have been playing guitar for about 7 years now and I really want to get a new amp. Right now I have a Fender Frontman 15G and so I really want to upgrade from it even though its not that bad of an amp. I really LOVE to play metal and other heavy stuff but as I am going to school for music, I am trying to expand the range of play style to blues alternative and other kind's of music involving guitar. Right now I am stuck between a Line 6 Spider IV 75 and a Peavey VYPYR Tube 60. I'm not very knowledgeable about amps so that's why I'm asking for help. What do you guys think between the two? Or are there any other kinds of amps I should take a look at instead?

the vypyr tube 60 is a great amp, but you will need one of the two Sanpera footswitches for it to be a viable option. still you'll be under budget (i think?)
will you buy them used? maybe from guitar center (they have a good return policy and you can get a nice warranty) and you'll save lots of money. |

Vypyr Tube absolutely dominates the Spider. No contest, no question.
However, answer these questions here for us and we can figure out if there might be other options as well. ![]() http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/foru...d.php?t=1387138

Alright to answer the questions you put ill say:
Budget: $400 (willing to go to $450) Genres: Metal, Rock, Alternative my favs but I do want to get some cleans for jazz, blues and other genres along those lines. New or Used: If I can find a used one that'd be great Home or Gig: something I could use for both? Closest City: While in school Brea. Not in school El Monte Current Gear: Schecter Omen 6, Fender Squier Strat(needs fixing though) |

Step 1: Buy used VYPYR 60 from GC for $250
Step 2: Buy Used Sanpera II from GC for $100 Step 3: Keep the remaining $100 for other gear.

used peavey vypyr tube 60 ($250 and up)
used peavey xxx($350 and up) used peavey ultra($300 for 212) used peavey 6505 112 ($350 and up) Used Krank rev jr head($250 and up) I am in the same boat and these are what I have been considering. You should do the same. With any of these you should probably save a little extra cash for a noise gate id think.

![]() maybe you should get... wait for it... wait for it... ... an orange? Sorry ![]() seriously, though, out of those two, i'm guessing the vypyr tube would be way better (i haven't tried the vypyrs, but the spider isn't great).

This. I've had both and the Vypyr kicks the Spider's ass.

You might be able to afford a used Peavey JSX combo.
As has been drilled, you can't go wrong with the Vypyr Tube. The DSL would still be a good choice, though it can't really pull off jazz cleans like the Vypyr or JSX can.

The clean was the only thing I liked about the DSL. Not jazz though for sure.
Peavey = win.
