I am confused.

So I've been obsessed with Star Wars lately. But theres something that has confused me since I was 8 or 9. You see buildings and towers on the surface of the Death Star, that people go up in a walk around and stuff. But I've also seen cross sections that show that the floors for the hallways inside are at a 90 degree angle, and people walk around inside the Death Star that way. Doesn't this defy the laws of physics?? I need a physics savy to help me out with this one..

Is this really the most unplausible thing in Star Wars to you?

You don't need anyone physics savvy to help you. You need to understand the concept of suspension of disbelief.

If Star Wars obeyed the laws of physics there would be no need for any floors in any of the space ships, everyone would just float around anyway.

There is no way with real physics for them to walk around on flat levels like in a building.

Because it is a fictional film. That is also the reason that the spaceships fly like they're in an atmosphere. It's not real.

The most realistic option would be to rotate the Death Star at the correct speed to generate artificial gravity via centrifugal force. Everyone would be walking on the inside of the sphere. But then a sphere would be a poor choice because only some of the sphere would be receiving the correct force.

I always thought it was possible, like i thought there was some gravity law that made it possible, but I guess not

I can't imagine the Death Star's laser cannon being very accurate either.

The only way it would work is if it was so large that it had it's own significant gravitational field. Newton tells us that all objects with mass have a tendency to accelerate towards one another. If the Death Star is of great enough mass, all objects within the vicinity of the Death Star would accelerate towards it, creating a gravitational field identical to that of a real planet.

The death star is large enough to look like a moon at first glance, thus it has enough mass to have some gravity. So people can walk (well, sort of bounce like astronauts on our moon) on the surface. Throw in some artificial gravity technology on the inside (it must exist, no one floats around in the Falcon), and you have decks arranged in a simple vertical way as if it were a tower rather than each deck being a slightly smaller sphere inside the above deck, presumably as the former is easier to navigate. Simple really.

Now, someone buy me a drink, and I'll explain why Han says the Falcon can make the Kessell Run in 12 parsecs, when a parsec is a unit of distance, not time (clue: it's not because he has no actual understanding of distance, speed and time).

If artificial gravity like that was a thing surely they'd use it in spacecraft and on the ISS?

Basically what I mean is, I wanna know how they can have towers like this on the surface of the Death Star, like on earth:

But when you see a cross section of the death star (far right) you see a bunch of hallways that are basically at a 90 degree angle:
