The thread is about choosing between an MIM or CV. I don't think MIA is going to be in his price range.

I switched the focus of the thread because I can swing it. Found the guitar in this post in this thread for $525 with hard shell case. It's in mint condition without so much as single speck of dust on it. It should be mine tomorrow or Tuesday.

His first post says $400.

EDIT: You also linked me away from this thread back to this thread, then posted same image twice.

I was looking at a MIM Strat standard for $400 with case. However, I found the above American Special Stratocaster HSS rosewood 3-color sunburst for $135 more. I can spend a little more and get this American guitar with better pickups. There have been some changes in the financial variables since my original post so I can make the American purchase happen.

Thanks for all the replies. You all have been helpful.

Edit: I merely redirected you to an earlier post that contained the same image. In that post I stated that I had found that guitar and could manage to purchase it instead of the MIM strat.

Oh, balls. I didn't realize you started this thread. I totally misread it.

Nevermind, then. Congrats on the find and cash!

A3 and A5 magnets in Strat pickups produce a close enough tone that I wouldn't give it a second thought. The 60s having a rosewood board and the 50s having a maple one is a bigger and more important difference.

As for the MIM Standard, that's the better platform for modding and that is really what this comes down to. If you want something right off the shelf, Squier. If you know you'll be chucking in your own pickups, tuners, bridges, etc, get the Fender.

I'll be picking up a Fender® American Special Stratocaster® HSS Rosewood 3-Color Sunburst as seen in the above images for $525 with Fender case. It comes with TexMex pickups in neck and middle position and atomic humbucker in bridge. USA made and I don't see any reason to have to mod this one.

I'm returning one of two guitars I purchased over the holidays and will have enough to purchase the above mentioned USA Strat that's in mint, showroom condition with roughly $25 left over for a set up if needed, or new strings.

What year is it, by the way? I've actually liked the Specials better than the Standards for the 2011/12 production line.

the american special is a nice guitar.

the "atomic" humbucker is meh imo but that's easy enough to fix.

congrats!
