Selling your songs on iTunes
Hi guys
Not sure if this is the right forum (and first time for me to post outside of "electric guitars.") Anyway I am starting a new project soon and I think it would be great to get my recordings listed for sale on iTunes, Amazon etc. I don't have a record label or anything, it'll all be self-published. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks! |

Hate to just drop a link on someone but the Apple website has an excellent FAQ section. I'm guessing you would have a few more things to do to make your music official and legal, but Apple is pretty straight forward.

Just pay the money for Tunecore. Unless you're a major artist, you aren't going to get your own account to put music on iTunes.

Yeah I noticed that, they say you need a catalog of 20 albums. Thanks for the recommendation. |

Most def, I used them back with one of my old bands albums. I think we sold 2 songs off it total but we made $1.50 from iTunes :p
Probably the worst piece of shit album I ever recorded and we made $50 in physical sales. If I can find it, I'll post it :p

People are happy to spend more money submitting stuff to iTunes because they think it has some kind of prestige. I really don't think people care, in all honesty.
Don't waste your time when you can just sell it DRM-free through your own website or something like Bandcamp.

Rebeat has pretty good software that does it all for you adds it to many other online stores not just itunes, Cheap at around $1 or 2 a song,.but you also have to buy the software but it's fairly cheap too

this is a comment more about "the music business" not about music distribution. yeah your right in some ways,. But your also wrong, you have to try to win,... to win. Marketing is everything and if your store is no where, so is your product. you have to decide what and how to make the most of your creative output. it's the age all story of the artist. repeating and repeated again. you have to market yourself to get into the market that gives you money. itunes has a place in your total package, if you choose to not use the largest outlet so be it.

Yeah I just want to use iTunes because it would make my stuff easy to find rather than having to hunt around for some obscure web site.
I don't even use iTunes personally. |

Bandcamp isn't exactly obscure these days... but I do know that not everyone knows it like iTunes.

Fair enough but it's not really something my target audience would be familiar with. |
