Just stay away from anything with MG written on it. The Valvestate cabs are pretty shitty too. The rest are fine.

The Marshall 1960 is good, cheap and extremely common - you can find them on Craigslist or eBay pretty much any day of the week for $300-350.

As they said, as long as it doesn't say MG or Valvestate, you cannot go wrong.
Personally, I would probably go the Mesa. I know you say he is fixated on Marshall and that makes sense for a youngin, but a Mesa cab would be equally brilliant

Not sure about Valvestates, but MG cabs are instantly recognizable because they are physically much smaller than a 4X12 should be. They're like little toys haha.

Well a 1960 or JCM 900 is not going to have any of the problems that the others have, so just hit up any of them man, you can't go to wrong. As long as everything is in working order of course

The JCM900 4x12 is a 1960.
