6505 Tube Amp with Multi Effects pedal?
So I have recently bought a Peavey 6505 head and was wondering if i could run my ME-25 multi effects pedal through it. I want to use my amps distortion but wanted to add a tube screamer setting from ME-25 and maybe a couple of other things.
Would I run it through the front of my amp or in the effects loop? I have never seen anyone use this setup so that is the reason I am thinking something must be wrong with it. |

If you are wanting to do the classic tubescreamer/6505 combination you will want the unit out front. The tradeoff is that you have to put up with your other effects out front too. A lot of those will work fine. Delay and reverb are the ones that will suffer the most. They'll still work but will sound messy in most situations.
It's a matter of priorities. Is pushing the amp with a tubescreamer more important than your delay? Only you can answer that.

Just go out and get yourself a used Digitech Bad Monkey. I wouldn't use the ME-25 for a tube screamer. I'd stick it in the effects loop to add modulation & delay.

^ Or this. Buy a tubescreamer clone (the Joyo ones are fine and dirt cheap) and stick the ME25 in the loop for everything else.

thanks for the replies, just tried the ME-25 in the front of my 6505 on the LEAD channel with just the tube screamer setting selected. Sounded horrible and chugs sounded really muddy what would cause that to happen?

Maybe a shitty tubescreamer copy? Get a real tubescreamer or some other pedal of that kind, I would never get a multi effect processor for overdrive or distortion.

Unless it's a GP-8.
They have an actual factual analog SD-1 in them.Check your output level on the ME-25. ie compare it to going straight from guitar to amp.

Multi effects are not a good idea with tube amps I used to play a zoom G7 thru solid state amps till I bought a tube head. It sounded terrible with it so I switched to analog pedals and now everything is ok. Still have the G7 but it spends most of the time in the box. If you want to push your amp save for a decent OD wait 1-2 months get a worthy pedal and you'll get satisfied a long time for sure

Yeah, it would be the best to do that.

I use a multi effects with the 4 cable method, however I'm still using a real tubescreamer out front.
I recommend getting an overdrive pedal and putting that out front, then use your multi-effects in the loop for your effects.
