Phantom Menace: $983,588,295

Attack of the Clones: $640,912,840

Revenge of the Sith: $848,754,768

And that's just box office, no DVD sale, no merch. etc.

I know box office =/= quality but, It's Hollywood, anything that makes that kind of money will have more made. (Transformers for example... crap but people pay money to watch them..)

If it sells tickets, they will pump them out.

Pretty strange that attack of the clones only made 2/3s of phantom menace. It wasnt that much worse than the other two.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea Hollywood would do something like that.

Anyone other than Lucas in the director's seat is going to damage box office numbers big time. And if it turns out to be shitty anyway, then it's a double suck.

I've no idea how you can prove this...

I mean, really, you can spout your opinions on the matter all you want, but it's just conjecture at this point.

I love the original three, despised Phantom Menace (I will never forgive you, Jar-Jar), thought the other two were alright but would only watch once.

Mr Abrams needs to pull off something wonderful.

EDIt: Ok, ok. I understand some people liked Lost's ending, some didn't, but you can't deny that it had some of the greatest character development in TV history, and if there is something that the last 3 movies in Star Wars needed, it was likeable characters.

Really?

"Empire Strikes Back" was directed by Irvin Kershner

and "Return of the Jedi" was directed by Richard Marquand

**** Lost and **** you Phillip

Also, I have to say that JJ's directing style certainly isn't bad, but I don't get the hype about it, either. I liked Star Trek, and do look forward to the one coming out this year, though. I just hope whoever does the next Star Wars movies does a good job.

Anyone know what the story line will be?

I'm curious and will probably watch it either way.
But I will likely wait for the DVD

The films are supposed to entertain you not convey some sort of messianic message on morality, plus who cares about plot holes if I'm entertained the whole time. It's okay to not like star wars but there is absolutely no point going into a star wars thread full of fans to say its garbage, it just makes you look like a massive dick.

Star Wars is fucking shite.

JJ Abrams will somehow make it worse.

Prove me wrong.

That's the most pretentiously dickish post I've ever seen. And coming from the Pit, that says quite a lot.

Well done.

I think Lost was MEH but I did enjoy JJ's Star Trek.

I hope he does the original trilogy because otherwise we will know for sure that the JJ is for Jar Jar...

Star Wars opening weekend (directed by Lucas) - Limited Opening Weekend: $1,554,475
Wide Opening Weekend: $6,806,951

The Empire Strikes Back (directed by Irvin Kershner) - Limited Opening Weekend: $4,910,483
Wide Opening Weekend: $10,840,307

Return of the Jedi (directed by Richard Marquand) - Opening Weekend: $23,019,618

Before you say anything, I didn't compare the numbers of the prequels because they happened many years later, so there's additional hype that factors in.
