Old guitar - how can I big it up?

Hi guys,

I have a Stagg L350 that's taking up space and the rudest music store staff [condescending and patronising to customers and generally unhelpful] in the town. They also know NOTHING about guitars, but they buy second hand guitars. How can I convince them to give me as much money as possible for this guitar?

Pics here http://s1090.beta.photobucket.com/u...479137016939468

+ Great build quality [Staggs are hit and miss, so I hear and this is definitely a hit]
+ Good sustain [however good the sustain can be on a low end guitar]
+ Set up well [intonation etc]
+ Everything's squeaky clean
+ Awesome blueburst finish
+ Set neck!

- There's a small nick underneath [can't see it when playing - spectators can't see either]
- It's a Stagg...

Try to sell it before you take it to a Guitar shop because they will always give you less then you could sell it.

Maybye you can sell it to a ******. just say its a puppy

You're most likely not going to get what you want for it selling it to a music store. The only reason they'd buy it is if they think they can make a profit on it. The only reason you should sell it to a music store is if you need cash now or if you don't care how much you get for it and want it gone.

Thanks for the responses. How should I try and sell it to get the most I can? An ad on Gumtree is something I should start with, possibly eBay - anything else?

Anywhere where you're selling it to someone who wants the guitar, not someone who wants to sell the guitar.

If you did want to go with the music store, put it on consignment. You'll give them the price you want to sell the guitar for, and they'll put it on the wall at your price plus a hundred or so depending on how much it's worth. Then they'll give you what you wanted and keep the extra hundred, but it could take a while to sell that way, and they'll tell you that they can't sell it at the price you want and try to get you to go lower so they can get more.

Thanks I didn't think of that! I'd rather be patient and get more

The best you will ever get from a guitar store, most likely, is 80% of what they sell it for as a used item. That price is weighed against what the list price of the guitar is, the quality and condition of it, and how quickly they can turn around and sell it.

ebay, low start price, no reserve.

Yes, some Staggs are reasonably good, but at the end of the day they still say Stagg on them so you aren't going to get much for it. In my experience you'll get more on ebay than you'd get from a shop, so just list it & take whatever it goes for.
