That's actually pretty slick for an Explorer-shape guitar. Spalted maple is the wood to choose for natural tops!

oh god I should have mentioned that... I was always a fan of esp/ltd necks. very smooth thin enough but not an ibanez.. this.. this is a work of art. it feels very near what my BRJ 627 feels like and that was a 2200 buck axe... its got a nice taper that compliments what they were doing ripping off the gibson shape. but its not a baseball bat like the gibsons.. satin finish makes it fast. im not sure what ltd call this shape but its nothing like the "thin U" they put on the other mid-1000 series axes. |

I have the LTD and ESP Stef Carpenter 7s (27" scale) and the EMG 81-7s sound incredible through the Twin Jet and the VH4 ... incredible, huge Lows (not muddy) and very nice, clear Highs.

im strange... like the 707 emg.. but an 81 in a 6 string just sounds... well scooped and metal.. witch yeah Im a metal head. but It sound like every other guy who has an 81 in his bridge. feel where im comin from? plus its kinda simple when ya put emgs in a guitar usually they sound the same. no matter the wood. ya poay for this sick rosewood neck and mahogony body.. i want a set of pups that will bring that out.. aftermaths or nailbombs is what im starin at now. i think a set of camo covered aftermaths will look badass in this particular axe |

Need to try the 6 version of the 81. Could it be the amp? Love the Mids.

that could be a part of it.. I have one axe equipped with an 81 85 and ill keep it that way..
monster metal tone through my diamond nitrox. and gets that feel for teh type of metal i play in that band and with that amp.. but Im a tone freak. like a bit more control... was looking into the het set for this as well. Ive heard those pups in person and its a whole different animal. |

+311 I think that would look sick with a trans-black finish on it. Think about it. It still looks awesome as-is, though! HNGD! ![]()

very nice
![]() ^ yeah transblack i think would look nice. I have a vague recollection of seeing a spalt top with a (very light) trans black type of finish over it, and it looked really good IIRC.

Honestly, I think I would prefer any wood with at least a light trans black over natural. I just like the way it kinda tones down how bright the wood is and darkens the grain. Even a good wood stain would look nice. Then again, there's just something kinda raw about a natural finish. You can appreciate that it didn't need anything extra to look as awesome as it does.
Kinda like women and makeup ![]()

Thanks all. and I must clarify.. I dont mind a trans finish on nice tops... a well done trans finish can really make the 3d pop on a flamed maple top.
but I am no fan of solid color.. and the plans for this are a darker stairn around the edges fading into the full natural top. kind of the opposite of a sunburst finish.. then camo covered BKP aftermaths.. |
