Can smartphones read .Txt files?

I'm uploading some .txt files to evernote (tabs) so my band can read them, however I don't know if smartphones and tablets can read those. If not, I can just copy and paste the text but I find this to be easier. So pit, can they understand .txt files?

Should be able to.

Isn't OpenOffice or whatever it is free now on the market?

If my 2010 Nokia 5230 powered with S60 5t Edition software can happily read a .txt file, then I'm betting anything new will now.

reading a .txt is the one thing they haven't figured out how to do yet.

They tried to read tutorials online on how to implement it, but nobody had a phone that could read the files. It's a vicious circle of not being able to read.
