I understand that from an outsider's point of view, it seems immature. But you've got to understand that i was bullied RELENTLESSLY at that time. I was frequently beaten with golf clubs by bullies just because i wanted to work hard and make a name for myself. I was hated by absolutely everyone.

She looked out for me, she always wanted to know how it was going between my family and I because i talked to her about how my family kept fighting with each other, i wondered to myself why the **** she would ever care, and she said it was because she wanted to see that i was happy and that everything would turn out alright. I know it doesn't sound like much to most people, but this was the first time in my life that that a friend ever gave a shit about me.

So the fact that someone was willing to look past the fact that everyone perceived me as a loser and saw me for who i was, i feel, was a very loving thing to do. You can call that immature if you want to, but the fact that she showed compassion at such a time meant the world to me. I think that's a rather noble reason to love someone.

If it makes you feel better, then yes. Yes she was.

I haven't talked to Ashleigh in years. I've lost all contact with her. I came clean with her over my feelings (because i knew i would never go out with a girl like her, way out of my league), she said to me that she was genuinely touched, and that she was really thankful that things had got better since the last time we met. She said that she liked me, that i was a really sweet guy and that my heart is in the right place.

She even said that she wanted to help me get through my unrequited love for her, but i declined because i knew that i could never get over her if we kept in contact. She said to me that she wishes me the best of luck with everything, and that if i ever needed her for anything as a friend, to just ask.

I chose to cut all contact from her at that point. I haven't spoken to her since. This all happened 2 years ago. If Ash wants me to be happy, than that's exactly what i'll try to be.

Nah... I believe in immediately having connections with people that could lead to love, though. I have to know someone better than that to love them. But that's just me.
