practice amp and headphones
hey all.
im after a practice amp and some good headphones so i can practice at nights. i currently am going through a ac15c1 and it is too loud to play through at the times i am available to practice for neighbours and housemates. what im after is a decent little practice amp and some suggestions on headphones. i don't want to spend alot of money and second hand is no issue (amp only )the amp only really has to have headphone capabilities. if anyone has some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. edit last post http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/eppi...-pod/1012880445 is this a good deal, i've tried looking for "floor pod" and it comes up with a different unit. like stated before just want it for basic headphone practice, am not a huge fan of modelling amps anyways so the lack of extra features don't bother me Last edited by bigfyt : 01-31-2013 at 04:25 AM. |

I would suggest getting a multi effects unit and just use that for your headphone practice. Else you're paying for stuff you don't need. (Speaker, Power amp, etc.)

How much do you want to spend? Vague budgets are never helpful.

yea, it also matters if this is strictly for headphones, or something he plans to use in his rig. if you want cheap that isn't bad at all, look into a korg 1500 AG. i bought one probably eight years ago and sold it for like $80 or something i realy don't remember. oddly enough i was given one free from one of my mom's coworkers. just happened to be identical to the one i sold, it isn't bad. if you look around ebay you can probably find one under $100. IIRC it also has a looper (although its not the longest). thats as far as my experience goes. used and cheap may be good. or not. ![]()

As you're a Vox guy, check out the VT series of modelling amps. They're pretty cheap and pretty good. For cheap headphones, Sennheiser HD201/202

Don't know how much they'd be in $, but in the UK you can get a VT40+ new for under £200 so I'd be surprised if you couldn't find one used on ebay for your budget, and you'd probably only need the 20w version so you could possibly even go new.
The HD201/202 are one of the most recommended headphones for their price, definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Just get a Pod and headphones. You can use it as an effects unit for your ac15 as well. You'll be killing two birds with one stone.

How about going via the PC? You can get one of the 1/4 to USB interfaces for guitar, like this one:
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/UCG102.aspx If you don't like the modeling amps you can download some of the free ones, like LePou amps: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/ As far as headphones - I'd go with AKG K99 or K240 headphones. When you go shopping for these make sure you get a headphone pair that is comfortable and not too heavy, especially if you plan on using them for long practice sessions.
