Delay Pedal
'I need one
Budget : 100-150 New or Used: Used I have been looking at the Line6 Dl4, which most of my friends love, but I am skeptical about the footswitch and the volume drop. I was also looking the Tc Nova Delay, which had many more fine tuning controld ;ike Digital/Anlog/Tape and modulation level, plus you can tap while its off. My favorite sound is the dotted eith note dynamic delay. The problem is my GC doesnt stock Nova delays I also Tried to DD-20 but didnt liek it. Any thoughts? I live on Long Island |

I have a TC Flashback X4. If I had to do it over again, I would probably get the regular Flashback, but this pedal is excellent. All of the modes sound good, even though I don't really use the reverse or the dynamic modes. There are a lot of cool toneprints that you can download off of the TC website.
It has a dotted-eighth mode You might be able to find one for around $150 used, but I'm not sure. |

^ I am concerned with its Dl4 esque switches, is that an actual issue? Also does it accept taps while its off, or does it need to be on?

I love my Nova Delay for rhythmic stuff. Lots of features, including 9 presets. Can't beat that.

What switch issue are you talking about? I've not seen any switch issue being reported so far. The approach to tap tempo is to hold down the switch and strum your guitar to the tempo you need, so yes it needs to be on.

I don't understand what you mean about the switches. They are standard push button switches with a soft click (unlike a small clone or distortion +). The flashback x4 does not have strum setting of the delay, they changed it back to a tap tempo, and yes, you can set the tap delay time when the pedal is "off" (it always looks on as it has a blinking LED showing you the delay time). |

try to find a nova delay, i really like it, but i have pretty good delays off of my looper and have a malekko 616.
if i were to buy a digital delay today, i would get a nova delay. if i were to be spending more money (which i will at some point in time)s omething from strymon, i have always liked the el cap. but they are far out of your budget.

FWIW, the Line 6 M5 (9 and 13 too) has all the delays of the DL4. Doesn't seem to drop volume.

Scrolling presets was too difficult and the repeats sounded to brittle |

If you can do without presets, the TC Electronic Nova Repeater is in your budget, and sounds really nice!

I have the Nova Delay, I love it. If you're playing live, maybe look at the X4 though, you can save presets to actual footswitchs which is pretty nice. But the Nova Delay is also top-notch, can't really go wrong. Just know that it's (and most flagship digi delays are) 12v instead of 9v.
