Freaking dogs...
I work from home. In my office, I keep a guitar on a stand next to my desk to practice on while I listen to interminable conference calls. Last night, our two dogs were wrassling, and the big dog bumped into the stand, and knocked my Fender Deluxe strat to the floor. Argh-h-h! I have never dropped a guitar before, and it hit hard. It seems to be OK, but I about plotzed when it happened.
No advice needed, just seeking sympathy. ![]()

About a month after buying my Dean Time Capsule Cadillac, my dogs did a crossing maneuver in front of me as I was strolling and playing. I got tripped up, but managed to angle my fall so I fell mostly on my back.
My guitar's life flashed before my eyes, though.

That's about how I felt. It was as if it were in slow motion.

The first fall is always the most devastating haha. I just recently bought an American Standard Tele and I'm just waiting for it to happen

I bought a gibson faded V a few years ago. The day I brought it home I was walking down stairs to the garage where I keep my rig. My strap broke at the top of the stairs. Dropped the guitar, it slid down to the bottom. Broke 2 tuners and a tone knob.

It's a Fender. It's just laughing at the ground's pain.
But seriously, don't worry about it. Guitars WILL get scratched and dinged. Worrying about keeping your guitars condition just puts unnecessary stress on you for no good reason. As you know now - shit happens. It just does, as much as you may not want it to. Accept it, and breathe easier. Guitars are not china dolls. They are much more durable than most people give them credit for*. *Unless it's a Gibson. That shit'll break.

I thought it was gonna be a lot worse.
When I have kids and a dog my guitars will be a room they can't get to. Obviously the kids will wanna play the guitars, but that's what the Squier is for.

Last month, the rain and early sunset didn't allow for a lot of park time for my 100lb GSD. She must have been mad at me and anxious due to lack of exercise. She took a dump ON my pedal board in the middle of the night. She caught the corner, thankfully, and missed the pedals.

Pets: they have ways of expressing their displeasure with alarming clarity.

I put my new Jackson dk2 on the stand and started walking away a week ago, stupid me had the cord wrapped around my foot and the whole stand started falling towards me. I just froze didn't try to catch it and the side bumped my chair and put a tiny ding in the paint. I was pissed I could be so dumb. I just put a little black nail polish on it so at least it's not noticable.
Now I'm just kinda glad it's over I can just relax and enjoy the guitar more without worrying about the perfect paintjob.

I had a cat spray my old GNX-3 and it stunk so bad I had to give it away. The guy asked me if anything was spiled on it because it had a strange small and his cats were always rubbing on it. I told him not that I knew of

Kids MUST touch. Dogs don't know any better.
Big hint... with dogs and kids in the house, keep your guitar in its case, some where they are not. It fell, but came out unscathed. Consider yourself lucky. If it was a Gibson, the headstock would have come off.

A few years ago in my naivety i decided it would be a good idea to try and learn guitar spins... while the straplocks held fine the strap had other ideas, cue the maiden flight of my epiphone les paul, it must have covered a good 4 meters at about 2 meters of altitude before mercifully landing on the lawn unharmed except for a few scrapes on the back. Needless to say i have no further desire to learn guitar spins.

I drop my guitars all the time but then again, I don't have anything too valuable. But if I had dogs around I'd definitely consider getting a wall mount to put the guitar up on the wall and out of their reach when I'm not playing it.
