Things like this make me uncomfortable to be honest.

On one hand they are singing at the Super Bowl but on the other hand this is only happening because of a mass shooting. It's hard for me to see this as 'making a positive out of a negative'. Personally I would refuse to participate in something linked to a tragedy like this. I'm not criticising anyone though; I just hope the kids are alright.

I would also like to say there's something not right about giving these kids more media attention. I already don't like the amount of media attention this incident is getting, and to me this just reeks of feel-good bullshit to distract from, you know, actually preventing something like this from happening again.

i think this is great for two reasons:

1) i'm not the biggest fan of our national anthem. one might even deem it inappropriate due to how violent and war-centered it is. i prefer "america, the beautiful" honestly. while i like that song for its representation of our great country's natural beauty, "the star-spangled banner" is pretty much about our resilience in times of trial. i feel like i needn't speak further on that account.

2) i appreciate that we're keeping this tragedy on the national conscience. we should feel bad about it. it's our fault. maybe if the survivors of columbine sang the anthem at the 2000 super bowl, 20 more children would've been tucked in by their parents a few hours ago.

Also, the United States Nation Anthem is a horrible song as far as music goes, anyways. No rhythm or rhyme, no beat, no nothing. Just lyrics arbitrarily sang in some sort of tone. Just awful.

This. It's like rewarding the kids because they went through some crazy shit. Just doesn't feel right.

edit: also, whoever said the national anthem is through-composed doesn't know anything about music. if it's through-composed, why does the first part repeat? furthermore, why is each stanza set to the same melody?

Yea, I'd like to point out the falsity of non-Americans claim that we listen to the anthem every day, like its part of our school routine or something.

No. I dont who or what gave you that impression. We probably hear the anthem a couple times a year at most, and when we do hear it, it's usually via sporting events on TV like the Super Bowl.

Yup. I was kinda peeved when they interrupted Sunday Night Football for Obama's speech. I get it, a tragedy happened. Its my prerogative to not want that shit in my face, and drawing attention to it only encourages similar attention-seeking crazies.
