The Speed Limit and You
I've had my full drivers license for a little over a month now and I've come to a ridiculous conclusion.
Everybody (about 90%) ****ing speeds 15+ miles over the speed limit in my town. This seems a little bit unsafe to me to be honest. And it's seriously just about everyone, even in suburban streets. I don't know about you guys I'm not risking getting a ticket or ****ing up my insurance. So, question being, how many of you pit goers actually follow the speed and limit, and do any of you have this issue with excessive speed demons? inb4 **** tha poleic i speed all day

I drive the speed limit in town, or about 5 over. On the highway I'm likely to go 15 over though. I never go faster than everyone else though, I just go with the flow.

I drive really safe and keep to the speed limits. I got friends that mostly do that but more than a few who slam on the the fucking pedal and go waaaay faster than they should. It's fucking terrifying driving with them ;_;

In Ohio, speed limits are low, and are really not enforced as "limits" at all. Driving 5-10 mph faster than the posted limit would be considered normal in most circumstances. That's why driving in other states is a pain in the ass.

Difficult argument. There's no doubt that speed kills. However I would add that speed and carelessness kill.
The speed limit in the UK has been in place for almost 50 years. Cars have advanced so much in that time, but our speed laws haven't. So what has changed? People have become more complacent drivers.

You've only had it for a month.
Give it time. You'll be speeding like the rest of us.

I don't care what speed you drive, but if you want to drive slow and cautiously... STAY OUT OF THE PASSING LANE.

In neighborhoods where there are lots of people I go the speed limit (25 here)
Outside of that there's mostly open farm roads and highway, so yes, I speed. I got a ticket for 40 over when I was 20. |

I go with the speed of traffic, as is safest. But yeah generally here traffic is almost always going 10-20 km/h over the limit, cops included. And they really dont give a shit when it's everyone doing it.

Everyone speeds because the limits are usually ******ed. THey haven't changed much, if at all, in decades and cars are now build to drive safely at higher speeds, and can go faster in general.
Everyone here does 70-80 on the highway even though the speed limit is 55 on some parts. And honestly TS, if you're doing 55 in a 55 zone and everyone else is doing 70, you're the dangerous one since you're not going with the flow of traffic Neighborhoods and stuff are different though, obviously. I get this, but my biggest fear is that a cop is going to feel like it's finally time to actually ticket somebody for speeding and I'll end up being the hat draw.

I always forget the US's speed limits are stupidly slow. If you did 55 on a motorway in the UK you would cause a crash.
When I started driving I drove the speed limit, and I still tend to, but if it's an open road/ a road that I know then I drive as fast as I deem safe (which tbh is usually about 80ish anyway :|) |

I use to drive pretty fast. All of my tickets were for over 25 mph and ive come pretty close to losing my license. That was about 4 years ago though and that was the last time I got a ticket as well. Now I wont even go about 10 over (10 mph over speed limit is when they start charging for court costs).
Fastest ive gone is 180 mph as well and let me tell you: building blocks were being shat the entire time.

Lucky you for being in America. I'm pretty sure in the UK you can get banned from driving if you are caught doing 30 over. I think since cars are getting bigger and have more safety features people feel like they can drive fast because they are in less danger. I find that speeding in towns/villages/cities is not as big a problem as pedestrians are. I've lost count of the number of people who've stepped out in front of me without looking expecting me to see them and stop. The idea that they might not bee seen never seems to occur to them. There was even one woman who did this while carrying a baby. |
