The rules for speed limits are, "9 over you're fine, 10 you're mine."
I rarely go more than 5 cause cops are always rustling my jimmies.

I typically drive the speed limit in residential areas and then 5-10 over just about anywhere else. If I'm on the highway and conditions are good I'll go more than that maybe.

I always drive the speed the limit or a couple mph UNDER the limit. This is because my license may, or may not, be suspended.
It's kinda fun because people usually tailgate the shit out of me, to which if there are no cops around I drop my speed to about 10 under the limit. (Yup, I'm that guy) |

Here in Montreal the speed limits are ridiculous. In urban areas (not necessarily residential), the speed limit is 50 KM/H (31 MPH), which feels slow as fack. I sometimes drive at 65-70 kph when I know it's safe (40-45 mph). And I go around 10-15 mph faster on highways than the speed limit. But I NEVER speed in residential areas where I know kids might be playing, or near schools etc.

I speed almost constantly.
Not to the point of being unsafe, but maybe 10 over the limit most of the time. Slightly more on the highway. I've also been pulled over for speeding a twice, so there's risk involved.

Driving around New York and Philly is fun and pants shittingly scary at the same same. The Long Island Expressway around New York and I-95 near Philly do like 90-100 during rush hour ![]() I always just go with the flow of traffic though. Those people who swerve in and out of lanes going 20 MPH faster than everyone else can go **** themselves Last edited by WCPhils : 01-31-2013 at 03:59 PM. |

A few times I've caught myself with a leadfoot on accident, subconsciously adjusting myself closer to the majority of traffic, and I still have most people well passing me when I'm going around 7-10 over.

It is an unwritten law that the speed gauge usually indicates higher speeds than you are actually driving, its severity depending on your speed. Say you're driving 50kmph on the gauge, you'll likely be going 47. At 100kmph, somewhat closer to 93-94ish. That why everyone 'speeds', it's to compensate for that. Or atleast, that's what I'm told by various sources.

I generally do 10-15 over if traffic is moving well. Sometimes the flow of traffic is going like... 20 km/h over on the highway and i have no issues doing that. *shrug*

Not sure how the laws are where you live, but if everyone on the road is speeding, then you should technically be going at the same speed (going with the flow of traffic).

i don't even know why people speed. really, if you're driving 60 miles on a 60 mph road, and you're going 5 over, you're only saving like 5 minutes, and if you're only going like 20 miles you're saving yourself less than 2 minutes lol. i can understand maybe going like 10 over since you save twice that. but i don't think it's worth getting picked up, getting fined, and your insurance going up (or in my case getting in trouble for having no insurance).
people just need to chill and enjoy the ride.

I speed. A lot. If I'm on the highway and traffic's low I'm hardly ever under 90. If I'm late I flirt with 100.
I've been pulled over 7 times (none of these were on the highway) 4 of those were for speeding, and I've gotten zero tickets. It's fun being a white male.

I usually just go 5 over, otherwise I'll end up having to pass everyone, or getting stuck riding someone's ass.
I even go 60 on gravel roads (speed limit is 55), which, while still legal, can get kind of rediculous at times. In fact I almost died last week because someone crested a hill at the same time as me on gravel, and we were a bit close for comfort. |
