Cheapest interface with 8+ mic inputs?
I'm looking for a decent way to record at least 8 mics simultaneously, at the lowest possible cost.
At the moment the Zoom R16 seems like the best choice, but the preamps look crap - I'm happy to lose some of the functionality in exchange for better quality. I've also thought about buying an old standalone hard disk recorder off ebay and then transferring files into my DAW for mixdown, but there isn't really that much out there. Budget is around £300, any suggestions?

I got a M-Audio Delta 1010 from ebay for under $200 USD and Sonar 8 was thrown in the deal I think it's a solid unit, I do use a Mic preamp for main vocal Condenser microphone, But guitars etc work fine going straight in.
sweetwater had a special on the Tascam model with the spec you need afew weeks back so you will be able to get something in your budget,.. you'll just have to shop around,

don't buy Tascam. I have one of their interfaces, great, but they stopped updating drivers so when I upgraded OS it became useless. I contacted them and they said they won't be making any new drivers or letting anyone else make one. Never again.

There's a guy near me selling a Delta 1010 for £85. Looks absolutely perfect...except I use a netbook for all my location recording and it's a PCI card. Grr, back to the drawing board. That's exactly the kind of old-but-still-good gear I'm hoping to find though, cheers.

I'm surprised you can't find a used Saffire Pro 40 for around that price. £300 is around $475 USD which is nearly what a Pro 40 sells new here at full retail. I constantly see used ones go for $350 and I paid $300 for a refurbished but new in box.

Hi Kyle, you can often find the winning bid on eBay was around, or slightly above, £300 for a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, but you could also consider the MOTU 8Pre (a friend at uni had one and they're pretty decent) for a lower RRP and maybe similar to the Pro 40 on eBay.

You can find Profire2626s for pretty cheap (virtually identical to the focusrite saffihre in everyway) on clearance since they're not made anymore. You can also get two and make one a slave via the ADAT ports on the back for 16 inputs.

I got a Roland Octa-Capture new for 7 or 800 bucks a few years ago and I still adore it, great suggestion if you see one used
