another oh say rare new metal amp thread
So some of you might remember my thread on buying a new guitar, think im gonna go for the vintage v100 in white and spend the left over money on a half stack.
I think im gonna go for the harley benton g212 vintage cab. so that just leaves the head. was thinking of bugera 6262 head .as their going cheap on thomann. Or buying something on part credit and getting something like the laney ironheart. I had the bugera combo but the it sound a bit buzzy and muddy though there was a good tone in their ( stock bugera speakers suck should sound better with celestions?) never tried the ironheart though but heard goo things. Not gigging atm but hope to in the near future once my band gets a new drummer. thanks for looking guys. Last edited by Moon1n1te : 01-31-2013 at 06:19 PM. |

Budget? Location? New or used? Location?
What sound are you going for? I'd shy away from Burgera, but that's just me.

Bugera's are scary for durability. How cheap exactly? Used 6505 heads can be had for under 500

Not sure about prices but a Peavey JSX combo will cover most of that, put a boost like a Tubescreamer in front of it and you can nail the BFMV stuff

At least if you can get it for 275 you'll have money left over for a good fire extinguisher.
![]() Try to find an old 5150/6505.

Aside from bfmv, those bands sound more on the marshall side to me.

Don't get the Bugera. They have terrible quality in general. What you save (in terms of money) on the original price tag will later be invested at an amp tech, because you'll have your amp in the shop constantly.
If you like the 6262, then a Peavey 5150/6505 will be a MUCH better choice. The 6262 is a clone of the 5150/6505. Other great options would be: Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 Peavey JSX Peavey XXX Marshal DSL401 Jet City JCA50 Seriously, though, Bugera couldn't even take presentable amps to a Muisc Merchant's expo where they're trying to get new distributors. They have terrible quality.

I have a Laney GH100L myself, and let me tell you, that thing is brutal, but very raw in the ears of many. You might want to try one for yourself to see if it fits your style, or get an EQ of some kind.
I actually recommend it, just letting you know the facts.

I don't like Blackstars buisness practices. IMO I would rather buy the Bugera 6260/6262 than that Blackstar You should deff check out a used Laney GH50/100/100TI(tony Iomy) and If you need a clean ch look at the Laney VH100 (2ch version of the GH amps). Used they run about the same price.

Whats wrong with their business practices??, Yea id defo look second hand but it just kinda depends whats out their at the time. I do like the bugera i had but as i mentioned before the tone was a bit scratchy and lacking clarity but that could have been the stock speakers and I also worry about the build quality of them.

Yeah Bugera is very hit or miss with qualiy. I have a 333 head and it has worked for me for over 3 yrs. It has not been used for almost a yr though. I'm one of the lucky ones. Yeah deff ty used, you will get a much better amp for your money.

I will do, do you think the 6262 will sound better with a cab fitted with celestion than it did with the bugera speakers in the combo or is it just a problem with the amp that makes it sound a bit woolen?? Thanks for your input much appreciated.
