Trying to create a metalcore rig

As requested:

Trying to decide on amps and effect pedals. Preferably a combo amp, and preferably a tube amp. Looking for compression, delay, noise gate, distortion, flanger, EQ, and wah pedals.

Budget for amp is ~$1000, I can go a little over ($1300 tops), and definitely under haha. Hence my preference for combo amps.
Budget for pedals is under $320 for each pedal, but I'm all for keeping things minimal, too.

Genre, as stated is metalcore. I'm trying to do something similar to the guitars from As I Lay Dying or The Devil Wears Prada, or something in between. I wouldn't mind getting a tone similar to I Killed the Prom Queen, either. To specify, I'm doing lead guitar, so I can afford a little less beefiness and aggression. Though I wouldn't mind a suggestion or two for something for rhythm, as the rhythm guitarist in my band is on the market for a new amp and gear as well.

I can take a used amp or pedal without an issue. The tubes are the only thing I feel I'd have to buy new, if anything.

Using this for gigging, home, and recording.

I live close to Omaha, NE.

Current gear:
Carvin V220 (Koa body, mahogany/maple neck, ebony fretboard) with Duncan 59/JB pickups
MI Audio Crunch Box
Dunlop Crybaby Wah
Peavey Classic 50 2x12

Any advice? Should I switch all of this stuff out or keep it? I will say the ONE thing I refuse to switch out even if it will solve all my problems is my guitar itself. The pickups, sure. But not the guitar.

The reasons I am doing this? I'm tired of playing in classic rock/indie/punk bands and feel it's time to go back to my love of metal. Also, my amp has been throwing out some mean static and I wanna say it's a combination of the tubes being messed up and the JB pups.

Fill out that and post back. I'm aware most of it is buried within the text, but that's far easier to look at.

retube your amp for starters if you think it's an issue. I find nothing wrong with the JB/59 combo, but you might want to get something like D Activators or even EMG's for the -core stuff.

Have you considered selling your amp and just getting a 6505/+ combo? That'll cover every band you listerd.

And yeah, I was thinking EMGs and a 6505. I was looking at Orange Rockerverb 50 MKII combos, too. I may be selling the amp, I'm open to getting rid of everything except my beautiful Carvin haha!

I'd just get a 6505 and put EMG's in the Carvin.

Or get a Dual Rec and use EMG's as a lot of metalcore bands use dual recs. Of Mice and Men comes to mind for the Dual Recs.

But The Devil Wears Prada used 6505+'s and the I believe one guitarist does use JB's in all his guitars for the bridge.

Well if you look at my sig I have pretty much the most generic metalcore rig out there. JB's work great for that stuff so if you already have JB's, I wouldn't bother switching them for EMG's. Both of my Jacksons have JB's and sound killer.

In order of importance for a good metalcore tone, here's a potential rig:

6505+/6505 head or Dual Rec - $600-1000 used. A Krank revolution would also be a viable option.

Cab - $300 will get you something good used. I recommend celestion v30's or a similar speaker

EQ Pedal - $80 - 120

Overdrive Pedal - $30-100+ depending on what you get

Any extra effects you would want.

--Edit--

I didn't see that you would prefer a combo. In that case I think the Peavey 6505+ 112 combo would be the best bang for the buck option. That leaves you quite a bit of your budget left for an EQ and overdrive.

Thanks to everyone who's replied so far!
So I've decided on a Peavey 6505 head with a cab just because I thought about exactly how much of a pain carrying around that heavy combo would be. Plus I listened to some demos and I prefer the sound of the head.
Now I'm looking for a nice cab which has a decent price. Any ideas?
Also, opinions on Dimarzio pickups? I'm gonna leave the JB in on the bridge and just wanna change out the neck pickups...
And last question of the night: thoughts on the Maxon OD808 pedal?

I see on your craigslist a 6505+ head, a Soldano Avenger 100, a Marshall TSL, a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X all within your budget.

Oh, and I also see a Peavey Vypyr 60 with Sanperal II for $425

and a Marshall 1960A

I've never actually used a maxon 808, but its 80 bucks more than a brand new TS9. If I were you I would use that money towards an EQ or maybe a noise gate.

For cabs, mesa's are a good combo, but they're expensive. It depends if you want a 212 or a 412 as well. I would definitely look used for a cab.

Avatars are good value for money cabs.

If you can swing some more money and are lucky, Krank makes some very underrated cabs that are also good value for money.

I like the PRS SE 212s. I pair one with my Mesa MkV. The construction and speakers give me very nice cleans, and good crunch and leads. I personally like it. However if you absolutely want a bass that's tighter than Scrooge on Christmas Eve, the PRS cabs fall slightly short.

All a typical metalcore rig needs is a High Gain amp, and guitar with hot passive or active pickups and an overdrive pedal to drive the signal before it gets to the amp. A noise gate helps to of course What I'd suggest for you is: Peavey 6505+ 112, Ibanez Tubescreamer, ISP Decimator and a guitar with some EMG pickups in. Of course there ARE other alternatives but it's a start.

As for effects pedals start off with maybe an MXR 6 or 12 band EQ pedal and a nice delay pedal like a Boss DD-7 or something. Depending on which crybaby wah you already have, you should just keep that and mod it yourself

Guitar with EMG 81 -> Peavey 6505+ halfstack w/ Tubescreamer in front. Nothing else is needed for metalcore, that IS the tone.

Depends on what band's tone hes looking to emulate/whatever, but generally speaking, yes.

I disagree, to a certain extent. Some bands do record with Recs, or whatever, but I have yet to play a Rec that is good for core on it's own. They're lumped in with 6505s all the time as modern metal amps, but I have yet to play one that can hold a candle to a 6505 in the department of palm muting (which is an extremely important technique in core genres).

It's a given, but I'll just point out anyway, recording and live playing are two completely different ball games. You can get away with A LOT when you're recording that won't work live, due to the freedom you have in mixing, not even touching on the subject of what is possible with studio EQ.

you really only need , maxon overdrive , boss noise suppressor and tuner , in way of pedals , for amp , im running mesa dual rect through a mesa 4x12 slant cab... its loud.

in way of guitars most higher end ones will sound decent , i prefer ones with emgs pups , but suit yourself

In b4 6505, oh snap! I'd probably pair the 6505 up with a cab that's loaded with Vintage 30s.

The formula for metalcore = (insert schecter here)+6505+808+noise gate+v30's

Don't blame the gear.

Gojira use(d) 6505s.

The Dillinger Escape Plan use Rectifiers.

Can't explain that.
