Bareknuckles vs EMG's
This has probably been asked a load of times before, but I'm buying a Epiphone Explorer Korina and gonna stick some new pickups in it and do it up, I'm gonna be playing modern metal/thrash/hardcore, just a shit tonne of riffs basically. I'm stuck between EMG's and Bareknuckles, what do you guys think?

Completely depends on what sort of EMG's and Bareknuckle's you're considering.

I'd... probably get the EMGs. I wouldn't put BKPs in an Epiphone. But that's just me.

You'd probally want to look at the black hawk and aftermath bareknuckle pick ups.
Actives are the go to for us metal guitarists. I've considered getting bareknuckles before, but i can't find anywhere that has them so i can play them because i cant afford to just buy it and hope its good. So ideally you should go play some bareknuckles and see how you like them/compare to your emgs to your ear or just take the shot in the dark and get them.

I've just seen the EMG Zakk Wylde Pro set of EMG's 81/85 are they any different to the normal EMG 81/85?

UK Boutique Pickups tend be to hard to find. Luckily, Ebay and Sevenstring.org's classifieds have a bunch. Quote:
No. Just Zakk Wylde gets some of your money.

What are you using for an amp? And I don't think I'd spend the money on a pair of BKPs for a guitar in that price range.

The Zakk Wylde set comes with a Custom ZW guitar pick and the Volume and Tone Pots are the long shaft for les paul style bodied guitars. Quote:
Wrong. The ZW set is the only EMG set that comes with long shaft pots and the extra guitar pick for the same price as getting both the 81 and 85 separately.

out of all I said that's all you got out of it. ![]() That's not the only thing. It's the only set that comes with long shaft pots. Like if someone with a les paul bought regular emg's, they'd have to buy long shaft pots, costing them around $20 more. The kerry king set too. It's the only set that comes with his boost switch, which would cost over $40 if bought separately but only costs like 18 bucks more with the set. The whole artist on the cover is just to make the product sound more interesting, but if you really see what the sets come with, you actually save money if your adding them to a certain guitar and/or if you want the added switch. Quote:
C'mon, your better than that. EDIT: And just for the record, I'm not a big fan of ZW, I'm just a gear nerd that reads every little detail about a product. ![]()

*high pitch unmanly sound* OT: EMGs are the general "go to" for those kind of music, so really, try them out. Doubt you'll be disappointed.

If you're willing to go active try the EMG 57/66 set, or JHs. I've used the ZW set, Blackouts, and HetSet but the 57/66s are my favorite yet for any type of music.
