Looking for advice so I don't fry my amp/pc

So I recently found myself in (free) possession of a Blackstar ht5rh, but no cab for it. It sounds decent enough for my simple self (I'm saving up for a proper rig in the meantime), but the emulated out sounds kind of crap. I'd thought about going from the speaker outs on the back (and actually have done it before looking into it) into an audio interface and then run it through cab sims.

The very little I've found in my searches of google suggest this is a bad thing due to various problems with it not actually going to a speaker and such.

Basically I'm wondering if I'm doomed to use the emulated out (with built in crappy cab sim) or if there's some relatively cheap way of going through the external speaker jacks. I'm about a week off from getting a separate combo (valveking 112), so it's not the end of the world if I can't figure something out for this, but I'd still like to use the blackstar from time to time even after the fact. That and it'd be nice to record at 3am without waking my roomies, so perhaps advice could be asked for the valveking as well, since it lacks an "emulated out" type thing altogether.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried digging around a little, but I'm not even sure what to search for. Thanks in advance for any advice given!

Don't use the amp with out a speaker cab plugged in or a dummy load. You will fry the OT and get no sound at all when you do get a speaker cab. You may have already blown the OT and you just don't know it yet.

There was a guy here a couple of weeks ago that fried his OT doing what your doing.

Yeah, this sounds about on par with what I've found. I feel a bit stupid researching AFTER I tried something. Thanks for the input, and reassuring me that I'm a dumb ass. haha.
