Need a cheap cab and a cheap power amp. Suggestions?
Heya. I need a cheap cab (2x12 at most?) and a cheap power amp for my POD. I'm looking at a budget of about $4-500 dollars. I'm located in Center City Philadelphia, PA.
Thanks :3

I suggest not cheaping out on the cab.
cheap cab = cheap build quality/cheap materials = thinner sound = crap I'd start search the classifieds for a used mesa, orange, or marshall for a good price. alternativly, instead of buying a cab and power amp, couldnt you just buy some powered speakers??

I haven't even thought about powered speakers. I suppose. I just figured I could have a cab for later.... Regardless, I just don't wanna use headphones to play through :P

Well if you want a cab, incase of future upgrades, the best advice that I can give is to not cheap out.
I've heard avatar makes a pretty deacent cab for a good price, since your living in the states. I was cab shopping for a while before I found a good deal on a mesa 212. I'm so glad I waited. The mesa is far superior build and tone wise to a lot of cabs I've played. Its made out of real cab brich so its super heavy which gives it great bass response.

Just buy a half decent powered wedge. That way it will still be useful when you want to upgrade to something like a mesa power amp and cab. A wedge is always worth owning.

Tech 21 Power engine. $339 at Musiciansfriend. It is a powered 1x12 cab. It is designed for MFX/modeling units like the POD.

Mm. But I think I'd rather have a cab for when I get a head eventually (fingers crossed for an EVH 5150 III )

Maybe an Epiphone Valve Junior cab? They were supposed to be good and cheap.

Then I doubt you want a cheap cab The 5153 1x12 cabs come loaded with G12h30 speakers.

Assuming you mean 5150, those actually look fine. $370, not bad. Now about a power amp... ![]()

Yea the 5153 or 5150 III what ever you want to call it it is easier to type the first way As for a power amp, you could get something like a Peavey classic 30/30 power amp. It is an older tube power amp that has 2x30 watts of pure EL84 tone. If you want cheaper and smaller the EHX .44 is something you should look at. It is a 44 watt ss pedal sized amp and is $150 brand new and from what I have heard will work well for what you want to do.

Well in regards a cab...it may not be a 2x12...but I picked up a used Hartke GH410a for $60 bucks off craigslist in cherry shape...runs mono or stereo...has celstions loaded in it ...i think it sounds decent enough.
As far as amps go if you want solid state - Line 6 Flextone HD ii. Can get them on eBay for about $300. If you want a tube...Peavey Valveking 100's can be picked up fairly cheap. But listen to some of the posters above...don't make a cheap investment if you see yourself making upgrades in the near future...
