Richard III's skeleton found under Leicester car park

I searched and nothing came up so here we are.

A skeleton was found under a car park in Leicester which has been proven to be the remains of Richard III. Funnily enough he's got a curved spine which would have given him sort of a hunch back. Whooda funk it!?

Tbf this is pretty damn cool.

Pretty cool that they found his skeleton after all these years. As someone that has studied history, I'm sure he wasn't nearly as bad as history paints him to be. Remember that he was defeated, and his rival took power. We shouldn't assume that subsequent accounts of him were as unbiased as they should have been.

Richard III won't be the last bloke to have his face reconstructed after leaving a pub car park in Leicester.

This was mentioned in work today. One of my colleagues remarked "why would they bury him under a car park?". It took me ages to extract my palm from my skull before I could point out that it wasn't a car park when he died.

He's actually just about the only historical King of England who has his own appreciation society, because quite a lot of people realise that the whole Shakespearian villain is almost certainly an exaggeration. A necessary one since he was writing in Tudor times and had to make Richmond (Henry VII) out to be the hero, but it did stick quite effectively.

I agree, but only because he expressed a wish himself that he should be buried at York.

I think far too many people view him as some sort of historical Yorkshireman, though. People think of the Houses of Lancaster and York as coming from those particular areas when really they were just two rival branches of the ruling Plantagenet family who happened to become known after the most prominent Duchies they held. I mean, before he became King, Richard was Duke of Gloucester. It was his nephew who had York.
