Exclamation Bass Finishing Issues

Alright UG, I have a massive problem with this bass I'm painting. It is creating a weird effect after I spray on clear coat and I don't know how to correct it. This coat was applied after a nice wet sanding too! It looks like oil or tar...

There's definitely something on the surface that your clear coat doesn't like. Maybe it's still damp after your wet sanding, maybe it's grease or it's even possible that the clear coat is incompatible with the paint.

My guess (and that's all it is) would be to make sure the surface is thoroughly clean and dry before spraying. And checking your paint and clear coat types are happy to go together.

It looks to me like you used an incompatable clear. The paint types need to be the same or they don't bond properly.

Could be wrong though.

It bonds pretty well, and I just scuffed the factory poly that was there with 400 grit sand paper. But you guys are probably right, something is incompatible.
