Strings Too Tight
Forgive the silly question for I am just starting out, but my strings seem to be too tight because when i try to play a chord the vibrations in that string stop. Any ideas on how to get this problem to go away?

You're new to guitar, don't blame the instrument until you can be CERTAIN that you're just not doing it wrong.

Does it happen even when you just strum the strings with your left hand not even touching them?
