Miyavi slapping technique, please evaluate
This is the version I'm doing a cover of:
And this is the cover: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0Zx3UgZgezm Sorry for the quality I know I play shitty and that's why I'm creating this thread. What do I have to improve to make it sound better? I'm quite clueless. Thanks Last edited by Visual382 : 02-11-2013 at 11:49 AM. |

I think it's pretty good... The only advice I can try to give you is to maybe 'own' the rhythm more near the end part of the whole sequence?

You mean the end where he's playing around? Yeah I havn't really practiced that part and thought about not even including it, but I ended up doing it anyway for some reason.
Thanks for the reply and feedback! |

NP, Oh that solo part? I think you already know what to do for that part. I think even this 'Miyavi' made a mistake near the end... Sequence meaning... one gesture... or like one phrase of slapping. Notice how he keeps repeating the same sequence or phrase over and over again. The rhythm at the end of the each sequence or phrase, to my ears and body, is a little bit shaky? Similarly, I tried very hard to play... Phunkified(s/p?) by Justin King. The only way to get it really down was to practice slowly, get all the notes VERY clean and really 'own' the rhythm and the notes. |

Ah I understand.
I'm not really good at hearing things by ear, although I tabbed this song. Maybe I'm hearing something wrong? Here is the main phrase of the song: D|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| A|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| F|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| C|-------------------------5-x-5-----------|-----------------------5-x-5-----------| G|--------7-x-7-5h7-x--------5h7----|--------7-x-7-5h7-x--------5h7-----| D|--0--x------------------------------0--|--0--x------------------------------0--| Perhaps you could tell if there's something wrong, and point out which notes it is that sounds shaky? And about that part about playing it slowly, I've practiced that alot and I believe I fix the rhythm well but it doesn't sound 'good' until I increase the speed. But that's only natural, right? Or should it sound as good with low speed aswell? Last edited by Visual382 : 02-11-2013 at 12:35 PM. |

Sounds super sloppy to me. Might just be the low quality recording or distortion but I very easily lost track of the rhythm.
Kudos though, I know someone trying the same technique and is super difficult.

Yes! I have heard numerous times that it sounds sloppy.
What can I do about it? Just practice the rhythm in low speed? |

Pretty much the only thing you can do. Focus on getting the technique clean as possible, and dont be tempted to play too fast. ANother thing is measuring your progress. Record yourself playing the riff as cleanly as possible, then over a few days, record yourself gradually getting faster while maintaining a clean technique.

Hello again!
After listening repeatedly to the main riff over and over and trying to figure out the rhythm I believe I've possibly come to the solution to my sloppy-sounding guitarplaying. Once again, this is what the riff looks like: D|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| A|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| F|-----------------------------------------|-----------------------------------------| C|-------------------------5-x-5-----------|-----------------------5-x-5-----------| G|--------7-x-7-5h7-x--------5h7----|--------7-x-7-5h7-x--------5h7-----| D|--0--x------------------------------0--|--0--x------------------------------0--| I thinkI do a too short rest between the hammer ons (5h7) and the brightest tones (5-x-5). It's supposted to be a semiquaver rest, but I don't really pause at all. Do you guys think that this might be the problem? Perhaps this is what makes it sound sloppy? |
