Similar amps to 6505+ 112
I'm wondering what other 112 combos are on the market that are in the same price range. More specifically, things that have something similar to the 6505's crunch mode on the rhythm channel.

bugera does, but they aren't generally considered reliable. have very low quality and some start smoking and some supposedly did catch on fire. they basically cloned the peavey 6505 with thiere 6262 model.
short of that, not really, the 5150/6560 is rather unique and there really isn't anything similar to it.

What's wrong with just getting a 6505 112?
![]() If you want the 6505 tone, get the 6505.

Nothing's wrong with it, I was just wondering whether there are other options. I don't want the signature 6505 metal tone. I just want the Rhythm/Crunch channel. I'm wondering whether there's something that might do it better since no one buys a 6505 for the Rhythm channel. Here's my strat: ![]()

Eh, not really. If you're after just a crunch tone you could look at things like the Classic 30 or even the Blues Deluxe. I quite liked the clean and the drive on it, despite it being a Fender.

damn pretty guitar. thanks for the pics. really classy and elegant . you should post that in the 'pics of my gear thread' have you considered a MIKV? totally diffrent, but nice and tight, three channels, nice spring reverb, fan. i paid $875 for my long head. its not a rec, its cetainly not a 5150, but they are very versatile. the MKIV would be another great amp, but i paid quite a bit less for the IV and really like it. may not really fit at all but its a solid option.

Let me get this strait, you want the 5150/6505 rhythm tone, but don't want to get the 5150/6505 because you won't use the lead channel?

I have a nice little Blackstar 20 watt combo, very impressed, not the same tone as you get with the 6505, and I've had one, but a great little amp.

Found the 6505 112 to be very unreliable. Could have been a lemon though. Blackstar ht series get close to the rhythm sound its not as thin as the Peavy but is close. And if you like one channel amps get a dark terror. It's fun and portable. But you would have to get a 1x12 cab. Comboish right?

Well, the Peavey Vypyr Tube uses the 6505 power section, and is known for its 6505 model being really good
Other than that, nothing quite does 6505 like the 6505. You could take a look at the EVH 5150 III. It comes in 100w and 50w models, although it doesn't really sound like a 6505. The Egnater Vengeance and Armageddon are somewhat similar to the 6505 in terms of sound, but still not very close. If you're just looking for an amp with a decent crunch, then those are probably more than you want. If you want better help and responses, answer these questions: What's your Budget? What Genres and Bands do you want to sound like? Are you willing to buy Used? Will you be Jamming with a Drummer or playing Gigs? Where are you Located? What is your Current Gear?

Not exactly. If everyone says a channel on an amp sucks and you want a something similar, there's probably a few things out there that do it better. You don't buy a Rectifier for the clean channel. Quote:
The 112 thing is a matter of size and weight. I live in NYC and will be using public transportation.

That's so contrived though. You don't need to use every feature on an amp to justify it. That's just like all the people who don't want to buy amps because they'll never be able to turn it up past 1. If it offers what you need, then get over it. And why not have more anyway? Better to have and not use than to need and not have... Quote:
Then you're definitely barking up the wrong alley. The 112 is almost as big as other 212s. It has a huge enclosure to try to retain tone. And it's still pretty heavy because of that. I'd say go for a Vypyr Tube 60. My 120H is significantly lighter than my JSX, so I'm assuming there's a proportional difference in combos.

Didn't see that, grab a used mesa like a f50, a lot of the less famous mesa's are awesome and come in convienient combo form. They also cost about the same price as the 6505, there are used marshalls in that price range that are also combos as well. I would avoid Bugera like the plauge they sound terribad and if owned one id hope they go in flames so I could get my money back.

I've never had a good tonal experience with them to be honest. They might be ok at rock but they leave a lot to be desired.

Thats fair, and with the QC issues you might not have tried a fully functional one I'm not sugesting a Bugera by any means, but they do sound good when you have a working one.

I can't imagine lugging my 6505+ 112 around in NYC public trans. It weighs 65 pounds and it's not a small 65 pounds...I'd look at some different 112s.
