8 string in Dropped G?

I recently wrote a song that uses a perfect fifth harmony for the verses and post-chorus sections. To play it with two guitarist I figured it would be easiest to use a six string in dropped D and an 8 string 27" with a fixed bridge in Dropped G. However I would have to tune the low string up a half step to G while tuning the rest of the strings half a step down. Would that be alright on the guitar? I never hear much about people tuning the guitar strings higher than they are supposed to be and I was wondering if the extra tension on the string would be a problem?

A half step should be fine, I wouldn't think much more would be a good idea though.

You'd need to tune the 7 high strings of an 8 string up by 3 half steps to achieve Dropped G. As in: G D G C F Bb Eb G? Or are you doing Drop G differently the way you're trying?

Oh, I'm stupid. You're right Lavatain. I wasn't thinking about it clearly. I'd have an easier time getting a seven string and tuning it down.
