6505+ tube switch
Sup guys.. just thought I'd finally join the UG forum after a few years of going on it occasionally.
Anyways my friend bought me a 6505+ Combo for my birthday last week, and it just arrived today. My question is, I'm not a fan of their stock ruby tubes, any idea on what kind of tubes would be a great fit for me: I'll describe what style of music I play, budget, tones, etc. Style of Music: I usually play metal type music with the high gain cranked EQ's: High all the way, Mid about half way, Lows not so much maybe 1/4 of the way. Budget: Not a factor at all. Location: I'll just buy it online or make a trip to a guitar center, i think the closest one near me is by Minneapolis. If you need additional information just ask. Thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

GC tubes are over priced. They are all rebranded. Cut out the middle men.
Personally I like JJs. A lot of guys hear run a JAN5751 in either V1 or the PI. You can try a combination of tubes if you like. Make sure to keep spares.

A lot of people say the stock 6505 speaker is pretty crappy too. You might wanna try to allocate your money for both.

JJ ECC83 in all the slots. Then go from there if you want to try a 5751 or whatever.
Swap the speaker for a WGS Veteran 30 or a Retro 30. Profit

This, and the 5751 in V1 will do wonders for the clean channel. Eurotubes can hook you up with a full set.

I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, why is the speaker bad? What's wrong with it? I'll take your word for it though

The stock speaker is too brittle, lacks low end and doesn't handle high volumes well. Also, don't take anyone's word for anything.

You have a very good friend! Can i be friends with your friend? then i can have some new stuff too? My 6505+ has gone a bit wonky so a new one would be quite nice :p
Ok, it still works but i can't select crunch on the rhythm channel when the foot switch is connected. Not that i use that option 99.9999% of the time but still, if your friend wants to go ahead buy me a new amp too then that'd be great. *drinks coffee Lumberg style*

Maybe they manufacture them with various speakers then, because my stock Sheffield absolutely doesn't lack in low end. It has more low-mids/lows than the Eminence Governor I replaced it with. The Governor has more of a midrange "tear shit up" sound that I like though. As for high volumes, I don't know, it seemed to handle pretty ridiculous volumes to me... Haven't tried it in a long time though.

Alright, so in other words. I'm thinking about swapping the speaker to a Retro 30 and replacing the tubes with JJ's. I'll wait to do this, unless you guys keep feeding me suggestions; plus I have a fairly good idea on what it will sound like if that was the case. So far I really appreciate the input. Thank you!
