What would be the optimal picking for this type of riff?
Ive been learning Slayer - Praise of Death and I have a question for this kind of riff:
A|--6---------------------6-----------------------6---------6----------6------ E|-----33333333333-----33333333333-------33333---33333-- How would you go about picking this do you think in the most optimal way? Im not sure if I should use straight alt picking where I down stroke on the 6th fret A string and then back UP on the 3rd fret E string? Or do you think it should be a down stroke on the 6th and then another downstroke starting the 3rd fret right after? (I know the tab comes out all screwy but you get the idea.) EDIT: I should probably noted the tempo is at 202 bpm and those are a 8th note on the 6th fret going into 16th notes on the 3rd fret 6th string. Last edited by Templar0220 : 02-20-2013 at 12:11 AM. |

I'd alternate that. Do what feels natural to you though.

Ok, and also the notes on the 6th string are palm muted and the 6th fret on the A isnt, so should I be lifting my palm to hit that one note every time or ?

Yes you should. Also since the 6th fret notes I would personally say alternate pick everything on the low E and downpick then notes on the A string; you keep the rhythm in your hand much more consistent that way.
