Line 6 spider IV 15 amp or Peaver Vypyr 15?

Which of the two

1. Has more effects and features?
2. IS best for Metal? Especially the goth metal/Nightwish type of sound?
3. Will work for acoustic guitar too?

Vypyr out of those two. The Line 6 is good for nothing compared to it.

Although i would get a larger Vypyr.

Why just those two amps?

Tell us your requirements, budget & all the other information and you may find that neither are really what you're looking for.

If you only have those two to choose from, the Vypyr.

Though if you could give us a budget and location, it would help a lot, because neither of those amps is particularly suitable for a Nightwish or other euro-goth metal tone. That happens to be a sound that I'm very familiar with, and the number of rigs that can produce it can be counted on one hand.
I can tell you now that if you only have the budget for a Spider/Vypyr 15-watt, or any other amp at that price point, you're not going to get a Nightwish-style tone. If that's the sort of sound you want then you will need to spend more money than that.

Definitely the Vypyr. I have been considering saving up for the Vypyr valve amp. I played it in a store and it sounded sick. I don't know how the 15W versions sounds though. Its got a rectifier amp model which is what Emppu from Nightwish uses so you might be able to get something out of that.

For metal, hands down: vypyr. Honestly, I'd try to stretch your budget to get the 30w. It has a larger cabinet & speaker, will sound much more full and also allow you to use a sanpera foot switch.

^ haha, yep.

Now remember kids, if a bad man tries to sell you a spider remember to just say NO!
Spiders kill tone and ruin your life, just say no.

Hey all

Thank you for your replies.
My budget is 100-150 USD.

Why is EVERYONE against Line 6? Is it not a reputed company?

What amp will be good for Goth metal and Nightwish type of sound?

Line 6 spider I-IV's are pure garbage, never listen to a music store employee that tells you otherwise. They're lying.

They're cheap amps with a mark up that comes with the name just like Marshall MG's marketed towards beginner players who don't know better.

The only time you should ever consider a Line 6 Spider is if you come across a MkII Valve. Anything else with "Spider" in the name should essentially tell you to stay away. Trust me... I own one. It was my first amp (a Spider III 30). Don't get me wrong, I love/loved it, but I loved it like a mother likes an ugly stepchild. Sure, you have to act like its awesome and make the best of it, but at the end of the day, you're just really sad.

TL;DR - Get the Vypyr and call it a day.

They aren't against Line 6, just Spiders. I bag Spiders as much as anybody but I often recommend their Pods. They make quite a few good things but Spiders aren't one of them.

Unless you can save up more money, the Vypyr is the only thing in your budget that will do any kind of metal tone even half-well, and it still won't do the Euro-goth metal tone.

For what it's worth, to get the sort of tone you're after you typically need a high-quality, low-gain boost or overdrive pedal into a high-gain, American-voiced valve amplifier, then with an EQ afterwards (either in a series loop or even after the power amp) set to an 'M' shape. For Nightwish specifically, Emppu makes use of a huge range of custom-modified pedals and an EQ processor with different settings for every song. That sort of tone is very expensive, very complicated and not something you can get in a small practice amp.

If you can wait and save more money, you could get a basic high-gain valve amp and an EQ pedal and you would get moderately close, or you could get a modeling valve amp like a Spider Valve which also would get you a few steps closer, but still be a little off.
If you really can't wait, my advice is to buy the Vypyr—it's good, for a beginner amp—and just live with that fact that you can get a decent standard metal tone and that the tone you dream of will simply have to come later when you're in a position to afford something more fancy.
