Vai effects without whammy?
In The Animal song, how do you get those kinds of huge bends, like the one at 0:52 without using a whammy?

He uses a Digitech Whammy Pedal. The first generation, but I don't think you can buy those anymore.

Either that or use a big old prebend. but i'm guessing that it would have to be about off of the fret-board or your string would break. Use a whammy pedal, you won't go out of tune that way either.

I loved the way you abandoned your last thread when people started suggesting that most of your problems may stem from the fact that you're not as good as you think you are.
A word of advice, if you can't take criticism and aren't prepared to accept your faults and put in the work needed to rectify them...well, that's the biggest barrier to progress you'll ever encounter.

You don't. It's not just the fact that it's a whammy bar, it's the way he uses it; I have never heard anyone get that kind of control with that much bend without one.

First of all, you waited 20 minutes before you posted "you're gonna abandon this thread now too" I've had less than an hour a day to practice, and I'm already 1:20 in the song I've figured out a way to play the intro without using Vai's synth, and eventually I'll find a way to do the screams Besides, this song is way easier than learning Govan, for one, it follows a simple melody because it's mainstream music, and two, it's a good song to learn after I learned Manhattan by Eric Johnson because it's like the opposite of that |

I chuckled. Vai is not mainstream and far from it. He's popular among us guitarist folk and a few outside but he is not mainstream. Maybe a bit mainstream for guitarist, but not among the common folk. Anyways good luck on your quest of Vai learning.

I lied about my progress, but right NOW i'm at 1:25
Anyway, how would I go out figuring his crazy tapping part? Even when I slow it down to 50% speed in WMP it's fast, and the tabs I found of "The Animal" are largely wrong so I'm not sure if their tapping part is right |

If im thinking of the right song he is doing double tapping. PLease dont quote me on that.
And i agree you need at least a Whammy Pedal to pull of some Vai. First gen's can be found on Ebay but at a cost. Friggin expensive and considered the grail of whammy's, so they aint cheap. And a good trem helps alot as well. And quit bickering like children! Cmon where all mostly adults right?
