So recently I've been getting into Johnny Marr, the legendary 'Smiths' guitar player.
His chord structures, colorful riffs and EPIC TONE have really started inspiring me.

Just wanted to know what UG users thought of him, especially users outside the UK. Perhaps people in the US would know him better for his role in the rock band 'Modest Mouse'

Haha, The Smiths are as well known as Modest Mouse in the U.S. (except maybe that is a little dependent on the age of who you are asking)....I personally love everything I've heard that Johnny Marr has been involved with, but a lot of people think of him like an 'indie' artist or something and don't really like him.

That's awesome I didn't know how well received The Smiths were over your way especially since they had such a short career. But yeah Johnny's the man what he did with The Cribs was also brilliant.

I agree Morrissey is an idiot and only getting worse... However the Morrissey-Marrs duo can only be considered as amazing, just imagine what they'd have accomplished if The Smiths lasted longer

Musician's personalities has no bearings on whether or not their music is good.

Smiths are good Morrissey is a douche. That's like an undisputed fact.

That's not the point I was making. What I was trying to say is imagine if they continued making albums together. The legacy they'd have left would be even more incredible than what they've already achieved together.

I was not making a judgement about the music based on those who made it.

Not liking Johnny Marr is definitely not cool

But know I get you, it's understandable, some of their stuff can be pretty tailored to specific tastes. Three years ago The Smiths were horrible to my ears
