I have no issue with that actually. I usually don't bother to use terms like that unless I know enough about the person to know that they might know what I'm talking about. Now, if I do have to explain it; fine, it's no big deal.

Ok...fair enough. Though, that kiss was kind of creepy...

How can a bunch of people on a GUITAR forum not recognize the Black Flag logo?

Well, it is a guitar forum, so I would assume that people would listen to music that actually has competent guitar playing... ie not Black Flag.

I love when people get into arguments about subgenres that don't exist outside of the actual arguments themselves.

Genre discussions always make me laugh. Get over your semantics and just listen to music.

As for the OP, I suggest black ripped denim undershorts.

Yeah, let's just call all music rock, since it's not like it sounds different in any way.

I never said anything about calling all music rock. Distinctions are important, minutia isn't. There isn't really any reason to have 75 different kinds of "Hardcore" just because one band records lo-fi and another has two basses.

Obviously I'm exaggerating, but the point is the same.

No, but there is reason to have 75 different kinds of hardcore because they are distinct styles of music.

And I'm not exaggerating.

I'm just not a fan of dividing music based on inconsequential differences. If I ask what kind of music a band plays and you tell me "Mathcore", I'm going to know what you mean.
But if you tried to explain the difference between "Deathcore" or Grindcore, or Deathgrind, or what have you, I'd just tell you that they're different levels of similar styles.
Its the multiple crossover stuff I have a problem with. Specificity is nice, but you can definitely get too fine in describing something.

Deathcore and grindcore are completely unrelated subgenres.

It seems that you're not a fan of differentiating between specific and distinct types of music because you're unable to do it yourself.

because you don't know those genres

just like people that don't listen to metal don't understand the difference between death metal and black metal, and people that don't like electronic don't know the difference between house music and trance

And even more specific stuff. People that don't listen to trance wouldn't know the difference between uplifting trance, tech trance, acid trance, dream trance, goa, etc. Yet anyone that is familiar with trance music could certainly differentiate between the various styles. In fact, astute listeners can spot regional trends within the music and could possibly tell you the country, or even city, of origin of the music simply by listening to it.

To be fair, I only know them by name, not by sound.
And honestly, this is the part of the conversation where I slowly realise that there is merit to many of the distinctions, but refuse to admit it because I've dug myself a hole caused by my first visceral reaction to obnoxious genre names like "NuMetalCore".

That being said, No u r wrong. I am to much smarter for you to understand.

Edit: That being said, I still don't like indepth genre distinctions on a personal level.

That's cool as long as you are willing to accept that they are often highly necessary for many applications.
