Is it normal?

I just started singing after not singing at all since October.. I'm singing some higher notes and afterwards I kinda cough a little.. is this my fault or is it normal?

Sounds like you are straining a bit or slamming your cords together. Work on your breath support. Its normal for newer singers but definitely not correct.

You'll find that with proper support you'll hit those notes and it will sound much much nicer. Good luck bud!

What merriman said. Its probably strain and you aren't singing with proper support.

I reccommend ericarceneaux youtube series on diaphragm breathing here

To help you get started.
