Back on topic, take things really effing slow. I don't mean 70BPM or 80BPM, I mean 20BPM or slower. As you begin to feel more comfortable with the counting and movements, slowly amp up the speed until you've hit the desired level. This REALLY helped me on gallops crossing multiple strings and such (ie; crossing from the low B to the A, or even the D).

Speaking of gallops, Iced Earth has a few songs with insane gallops that also helped me in that regard.
