What was the guitar setup for Murray and Smith
On Piece of Mind? I assume guitars were strats. What about amps or pedels??

No pedals. And no, they didnt use JCM800's. Was something else, can't recall.
Was always fat strats with DiMarzio superdistortions in bridge.

They certainly did use pedals. I think they were using Marshall MKII's back then for amps and definitely for pedals Dave was using MXR Distortion + MXR Phase 90 Dod flanger 575 Cry Baby Wah Yamaha AD-10 Boss FA-1 preamp MXR 10 Band EQ EDIT: Forgot to mention the pedal list is from the guy that built Dave's pedal board in '82 (Pete Cornish). ![]() Last edited by Way Cool JR. : 03-12-2013 at 11:07 PM. |

From a 1983 interview on Guitar world, Adrian said he used a boss chorus, a micro amp, a tube screamer, and a flanger (any model would do, I guess). Dave said he used a cry baby, MXR distortion plus, Phase 90, and an FET power booster. He also mentioned a graphic EQ, but didn't mention the model.
Adrian's pups(H-S-S for strats OR H-H for an ibanez destroyer/LP/SG) Super D-stock-stock OR Super D-stock. Dave's pups-HSH(the strat): Super D-stock-dimarzio Paf 36th. HH (LP) would be just the Super D and PAF 36th. No idea on heads. Definantly MArshalls, but not sure on the models. Most likely the Master volume series. and of course, 2 1960 cabs per guitarist, with celestions (dave said he had EV's in one, celestions in the other) Again, it's all 1983 gear. Modern stuff is easier to look up

But now that I think of it, you could leave out the phase 90 and flanger; I don't hear them all that much, at least from the first 3 bruce albums.

Loads of stuff.
Buy the 'Live After Death' album and have a read through the back. Mind boggling stuff.

At the risk of turning this into a Maiden fanboy thread...make sure you pick up powerslave, that was always my favorite album by them. Much more of a fan of their older stuff, I have all the albums up to Fear of the Dark and I don't reall even like some of them in that area, the first 5 though leading up to live after death though.....absolutely

I like the two Blaze albums, I kinda feel without them some of the later stuff wouldn't be in existence, especially AMOLAD.
But anyway, didn't they change from Marshall to a different company for Somewhere In Time (not essentially sure, but I think they were Solid State amps, but I might be wrong!)

I would'nt buy gear to specifically try and sound like maiden, if thats what your aiming for (strat) the amp is the important part, guitar wise and gear wise i've also seen adrian using a line 6 pod, and theres some guitar tutorial vids were adrian uses hes sunburst fat strat (as seen on the brave new world tour) and he also uses a stock set up squier telecaster.
For someone who could afford any guitar and has many high end ones to use a stock squier telecaster kinda speaks for its self. |
