Boosting a head?
To be honest I'm not sure if what I'm looking to do is even possible but hoping that someone can think of a way.
I recently bought a Tiny Terror to play at home, and decided it would be fun to try using it with my band. We play hardcore/metalcore that's on the more chaotic/noisy side, manipulating feedback etc. I love the tone of the TT when it's cranked but it just doesn't quite reach an optimal volume, it gets lost underneath drums/bass/the other guitar. It works fine at venues when everything is mic'd though. However, my band occasionally plays venues when things aren't mic'd so I was wondering if there's anything I can do to boost the overall volume of the head so it's loud enough to play live unmic'd. Thanks!

dime the volume on your OD, and put drive all the way down, Make sure your mids aren't scooped on your amp, and Raise the cab more to ear level.

You could try louder/more efficient speakers.

I already use my OD808 as a clean boost, and I'm running through an orange 4x12 so those are already sort of accounted for but thanks for the advice!
This unleash thing is definitely something I'll look into. thanks a lot!

yeah something like the unleashed is awesome.
not really though man. if you are maxing out your power section, your pretty much done. especially wit ha 4x12 cab. you can overdrive your amp and potentially push an extra 40% ish more power, but you will be overdriven. no headroom. that will make it louder though.... but really the power section is the limiting factor.

Yeah use your DSL if you're not mic'd up then, there's really not much you can do with the orange if it's really not cutting through. Get your band to turn down a little? (HA)

you could try this
http://www.creationaudiolabs.com/mk423 it boosts volume without colouring your sound, may or may not hold true with a small tube amp working overtime though, failing that, a mahoosive cab will push more air and may help you be heard over the rest of the backline

Maybe throw an EQ pedal last in the FX loop. Also, switching to a 4x12 might help.

People, if I understood correctly he has already cranked the volume. Boost pedals wont do any good, it will just distort and compress more but it will not be any louder. The amp power section is already at max.

I'm kind of thinking out loud here, since its a tad late to be experimenting, but if you crank your amp but play softly then the volume is less than if you abuse the strings. So, if you provide a signal to the amp with a greater amplitude (courtesy of a boost pedal) the resulting output from the amp will be louder, no?

If it's already at full volume, boosting the input will just make it distort more.

always count on cathbard with the most obvious answer that noone has said yet. insist on micing your gear... or even buy a 60-100 watt self powered pa speaker/monitor... and mic into it. |

I don't think you're going to have any dynamics if you're actually maxing out the volume though.
