Peavey 6505+ 112 maybe?

Im starting a metal band and i need a better amp soon. Ive been looking for something cheap because i need something soon. i have heard that some have had wiring issues and not to buy them used. is there any truth to that because ive heard different things from different people. do u guys have any other ideas of another amp i should look into?

The 6505+112 can certainly handle most all metal. It is a tad bit more tame than its big brothers with the addition of some better cleans. The circuit is almost identical to the originals but the amp is made in China. There have been some QC issues with this amp (as there are with most MIC amps) and my opinion is that it either works or it doesn't work out of the box. If it is DOA out of the box then get another one.

That said, there are some other amps I would look at, especially used, with your budget and you live in a hot bed of great used amps so lets poke around in craigslist. You can probably find a used 6505+/5150/JSX/XXX/Ultra or DSL etc that would work well.

Yeah- you are in a hot bed for used gear.

You can get a 5150 head and a 2x12 or even 4x12 for $800.

I am in LA and I have found some pretty killer deals.

What part of LA?

Best of both worlds.

OC Craigslist and LA

If you had a cab already I'd offer you my Krankentein+ for $700. Perfect for what you are after.

I have seen 2 5150's go for $450. At that price expect a little mojo on the tolex and maybe needing new tubes. No bias required. Throw some JJs in there and you are set.

5150's are going for 500-600 normally. I know there is a 5150 2x12 combo not far off from you. Guy has it up for $600. They are built in the US.

I will post a few links in a few.

No truth in that at all. Get whichever you want. For gigs, it's usually easier on the back to use a head and cab just because they're a bit lighter individually than a combo, but even that isn't that big a deal depending on the combo.

yeah - I didn't even check Orange County. Either way you should be in good shape.

New? Then yeah you've got the 6505+112 and also the Vypry 60/120 that I really like.

Here is from the OC CL:

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/3687945728.html 5150II $600 needs cab
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/3675630567.html Krankenstein + $850 obo needs cab
OC Cabs
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/3674675041.html Avatar 2x12 $220
http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/3638925950.html Mesa half closed/open cab $250

LA
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sf...3650169479.html 5150 cab $300 4x12
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...3696205096.html 5150 cab straight, 4x12 $250
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ws...3692219837.html 5150 2x12 combo $700

Edit:
Also the Krankenstein + is mine. You would need a cab. Its in perfect shape. Its the newer model with the revised preamp. I have it up for $850. I'd let it go for $700. With a cab it puts you over budget. Hell of an amp. Has a master volume so you can play it with great tone at any volume level.

That one is not mine. That is just an regular non + model from dude with bad lighting in LA.

Mine is the one on OC. I guess the CL expired in LA. Time to bump that one back up.
