Bugera v55 tubes help

Hello, I just bought a Bugera v55 combo amp and would like to replace the valves with something better.

The amp has 3 12ax7 on the pre and 2 6l6 as power.

As I'm into good clean tone and use pedals for dirt.
Would like to know what brands and models from either brands would you guys suggest to replace my combo with.

I can tell that I will only be using the clean channel of the amp.

The brands I have been looking into are TAD; Tung Sol and Jensen.

The probelm is that these brands offer different product for the same type of valves.
Does anyone have good suggestions?

I'm into good clean sound throug out all the spectrum, but more on the low end as well as high end.Influences are Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins, Kyuss, Colour Haze...etc

By the way, do 12ax7 on the pre-amp need to be matched/balanced?

No.

The phase inverter which is a 12Ax7 ideally should be balanced, however the tolerances in the power section make it kind of pointless. - basically it can't hurt but isn't going to kill anything if it isn't.

So, after some looking around I found that Svetlanas make the best 6l6 tubes.I can get them in Europe even though they are expensive. For the pre-amp, I'm still divided between tung sol and JJ.

Those Svetlanas should be fine if you can't find JJs.

As far as preamp tubes go - I find Tung-Sols to way to bright and a tad ice picky for my tastes. I like the warmer tone of the JJs. That said, the Tung Sols are still pretty good tubes quality wise. What I would do is maybe get one Tung Sol, one JJ and one JAN Phillips 5751 (drop in relacement) if you can find one and put that in your phase inverter slot. And yeah, don't worry about the matched, balanced, high gain, low gain, BS when it comes to preamp tubes.

In Europe I can easilly find Tung Sols, JJ's EHX, Svetlana's, but no Philips, at least not in the places that I get my equipment from at least. That Philips 5751, where should it go, to the shared EQ, or to the phase inverter?

how old is your amp?

i say perhaps nothing in the power section, sovtek 5751 in v1, and JJS in the rest of the preamp. OR, a JAN-Phillips 12at7 in the last preamp spot.

Amp is brand new, it has the stock tubes made by bugera. Will try to replace the pre tubes with jj for a start and then probably head for power section.

yep. probably the best move.

i have a v22 and remember the gain being a bit fizzy when cranked. the 5751 in v1 helped get a better gain sound at all ranges of the gain knob. i would recommend that for all bugera v series.

i currently run a 12at7 in the last position, like that as well for the same reason although not as effective.

tung sols are bright tubes. also will be more clear than the stock bugera which i am sure are garbage. they will be brighter than JJs.

if i remember correctly, the v22 could be a very bright amp. i didnt need any more highs.

The V22 has el34 and the v55 has 6l6, so, I'm sure they'll sound different.For now I think I'll just replace the pre-amp valves.

So, on another thread some people on this post are also suggesting valves for my amp, it becomes quite clear that those(both) Jan Philips 12at7 and Jan Philips 5751 are the most talked about.
Also, some opinios regarding the place where they should go, differe.
So, regarding V1(Clean, also shared with V2 for distortion channel), and V3(Phase inverter), how should I go with these in terms of place????
Some people in other forums do state that on this specific amp, the Jan Philips 5751 goes really well on V1.
I'm confused, I should have gone into tubes earlier in my life.

V1 is not always just for drive. nor is any tube specific like that, it is all the specific design, and generally, most tubes amps are designed in similar ways.

you have the initial amplification and gain stages, followed by EQ drivers, loop drivers, etc, and then last is almost always a phase inverter, which splits the signal and drives it into the power tubes. sometimes, a tube for a FX loop driver may have no tonal impact at all. it is simply there to drive an analog signal through the chain. perhaps some would disagree.

where i am going with this is, v1 is not just for gain. think of it is the 1 step, and cornerstone tube for all your tone, clean and dirty. easily has the most impact in the preamp. sometimes this function may spill over into v2 and so on, but less of an impact.

in a v series, the gain is a big fizzy when cranked, so many people like a semi lower gain 5751 in V1...which really tames the fizz but keeps the crunch. i also put 12at7s in the last stage, i think it adds clarity. this is amp speicifc though, many amps dont like it. i had a friend put a 12at7 in his marshall DSL 50 and said it took all the balls out of the amp. possible, perhaps the amp was not designed for the changes in current.

if i was you, i would put a 12ay7 in V1 for extra clean (like fenders) or a 5751 there, JJ V2, and a JAN-PHillips 12at7 in v3.

its going to clean the amp up, add a lot of clarity, perhaps even allow you to push the power section harder and get some great harmonic goodness (12ay7 = lower gain = perhaps lower output, making you compensate by upping the master a bit).

Be careful when you say Svetlana. There are two types. There are SED =C= which are actually made in the old Svetlana factory and the ones labelled Svetlana which are made in the New Sensor (Sovtek) factory. New Sensor bought the name. The SED's are sensational, the Svetlanas are crud.

I've got a set of JJ's for the power section and an old Philips Miniwatt 12ax7 for V1, Amperex Buggle Boy(Holland) for V2 and JAN Philips 5751 for V3.The amp sounds really good.
Just one problem, because it is a combo, the power valves rattle a bit.Actually, one of them doesn't rattle too much, but the other one does.
I've removed the chassis and put some thick spongy tape to absorve some vibration, still it rattles a bt, less than before, but still a bit.Does anyone know a way to stop the big bottle from rattling???

^ He just bought a bunch of NOS tubes. Why would he contact Bob? Does Bob sell tube spring retainers now?

garfo - what kind of retainers does your amp come with? You could get something like this:

http://www.thetubestore.com/Parts-A...-and-EL34-Types

But yeah, combos due tend to get some tube rattle. There are some more sophisticated tube retainer type stuff out there too if you look for it.

My amp came with no retainers, just a big grid arround all the tube section, just for protection I guess. Those ones look cool, would need to make some new holes on the chassis, right??
