Yeah, with a rough idea of A and B the first two days since I signed up. But I had to postpone until this weekend. I'm doing some reading on Ternary form and Minuet and Trio.

You think I've had time to compose anything while I've been carefully checking and rechecking the participants list to make sure everyone's name is spelled properly and everything is in perfect alphabetical order? One thing at a time, one thing at a time.

I would enter, but I can only give a scanned handwritten score.

Hmm, well you'd have to copy it from the page so it would be rather a hassle unless you have a string quartet handy. It wouldn't be really be worth it for one of my compositions.

^If you scanned it and sent it to me (and it's legible ) I could notate it and at the very least get you a Sibelius playback of it.

Yeah, I totally got too caught up in other stuff to do this. And I'm not sure I can pull it off anymore.

Well, congrats on being the only person to finish this on time. That is, itself, a pretty impressive feat.

I think this is a good beginner's try at this kind of writing. You more or less followed the form, and I like that the trio contained the quarter - 2 eights - quarter motif from the main idea.

But overall you need to develop a better grasp of tonal harmony and counterpoint. Most of the harmonies in here are not convincing in terms of smooth flow, and that's in part due to the weak melodic qualities in each voice, which brings up another thing. Although the melodic idea had some organization, it's not one that's very musical or compelling. The main idea does not really make a strong statement, and a lot of the parts after that feel a little aimless and just filling out notes for the sake of stretching out time. Every point in the music should have purpose and tangible relevance to the whole.

But again, it's good that you followed through on this project. Now just work on musicality.

Sill the 30th here and I've got part of mine done so don't bet on him being the only one to finish on time

I still have to finish the second section but I most likely won't have time to do so for a while so I guess I'll just share what I have so far:

Really tempted to do this, but I'm in a crunch at the moment with University work.

If you make another after May 18th I'll definitely enter that.

I wish I had known about this earlier. I didn't read about this until after work today, however, I did get about a third of a piece done since then, so I might just post it here in a day or two anyway.

I just whipped this up today, this is my first ever 'classical' composition and I'm actually pretty pleased with it Edit: I changed my mind, it's pretty bad. It's quite short, mainly because Finale Notepad sucks ass and this took an embarrassingly long time.

Anyway, let me know what you think. I should note the score has the wrong key signature, I started writing and then couldn't change it because Finale kept trying to transpose what I had and I really couldn't be bothered to sort it out. For the B section it's actually right because it changes to the parallel major.

Score:

All the parts that don't make sense are due to limitations of Finale Notepad.
