How is a song like this played?

Okay Im pretty new at guitar and Ive noticed I dont understand many of these tabs with chords. For Instance, in the song Ghosting by Mother Mother ([forbidden link], when it says the name of the chord but it doesnt sound like the chords being played, it sounds like its being picked? Here is the tabs/chords for the song - [forbidden link]

So how do I play it? Thanks

A chord will show up like this in tabs, the notes are inline vertically, meaning they are played at the same time.

Yeah I understand that. I mean im not that new Ive been playing for over a year. I can play all the chords I just cant read them for a song and figure out how to make it sound right. Like in the example I gave you dont simply just strum the given chord out because it doesnt sound right, you know? Like its an arpeggio or something.

Your links don't show up so I had nothing to go by. Also, tabs are not always correct, they are written by random people on the internet. If the chord is meant to be arpeggiated, it should show up in tabs as such.

What you posted isn't the tabs, it's just the chords.

Try these.

yeah I'd ditch the tabs ASAP and start trying to get stuff by ear and/or standard notation. Tabs are universally inaccurate and uninformative. At least with standard notation you can see the rhythm.

We all suck at everything at the beginning. But that's no reason to ditch something.

Standard notation is the use of traditional musical score. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_notation

what in the hell... how am i supposed to figure that out hahah

And the problem i have with learning by ear is I just dont know where to start with a song, like what to try first. Also, in most songs with electric guitar i want to learn, a lot of the times its very hard to hear with everything else going on.
