Bolt on LP neck? P90 suggestion?

I have an Epiphone LP double cutaway.

But, it's missing a neck. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a bolt-on style LP neck anywhere. I use to be able to find a Mighty (something), brand of neck, but now I can't find anything.

Next, I like the p90 in guitar, it's got a lot of bite to it, but I'm looking to see if I can improve the tone with a better p90, suggestions are highly appreciated.

Budget? - N/A, saving up for everything

Preferences? - Thin neck preferred

Pickups? - Open to suggestion

New or Used? - New might be the best option for the neck, pickup open to suggestion.

Location? - Lansing, MI all the way to Chicago, IL

Current Gear? - A guitar body with a pick up and pots in it.

I can't help you with the neck, but look at Vintage Vibe for your P90. There are other very good makers out there, but this guy does what are essentially custom winds for a airily reasonable price.

Should point out I'm going for a versatile tone. Jazz to metal for example.

Will take a look at a Vintage Vibe

Guitarfetish was the first I checked.

Only LP necks are set necks.

I checked warmoth, but they aren't compatible with epiphone LPs

I'd rather not, but if it comes to that, then I guess I have to.

You said you need a bolt-on LP style neck, they carry them at guitarfetish.

hear is a link http://www.guitarfetish.com/LP-Styl...-FB_p_5488.html

This is a bolt-on neck, the category is called set-neck style, because they look like most set-neck LP's

Weird that you should say that, seeing as they market some of their les paul necks as set-necks, like this one:

Edit: Twarted again! Damn you Robb!

I could be wrong, but when I say bolt-on, that means I'm using a neck that has to be screwed into the body with 4 screws, correct?

Where are the screw holes for this particular neck?

You have to put the screw holes in the neck (that way you can make it compatable with any 24.75" scale body). If you read the description it says in the first line it is a Bolton neck in Set-neck style that uses a Fender style neck plate

So you would put the neck on the body and mark the hole position with a marker/pen and drill. Be careful not to drill trough the fret board

Never drilled something before, but I should be able to work it out.

Would the neck plate cause issues? I would be putting the neck on an Epiphone LP jr. double cutaway. The pickguard covers part of the neck. The original neck had just a wooden part on it for attaching to the body.

Also, the color of my guitar is a TV yellow, would there be a way to give the neck the same paint job?

Drilling is easy, but if you are uncertain ask a friend/family member that has experience with a drill. just make sure the neck is sitting good in the neck-pocket before you drill, a C clamp will work fine

You can get that neck in a maple finish which is similar to the TV yellow, or you can buy TV yellow spray paint from www.reranch.com

Would the neck get in the way of my pickguard though?

Also, using spray paint wouldn't effect the feel of the neck, would it?

Edit: "This neck is ready to roll but for ultimate playability we recommend you do a level/crown/polish on any factory new neck."

How do I polish a new neck? Sorry for my lack of experience with guitars.

I don't see why the neck would affect the pick guard at all, as long as the picguard does not intrude over the neck-pocket of the guitar.

If you do the painting right you'll be fine. I suggest looking on youtube at sullys guitar garage videos. he has some refinishing videos that are great help.

With a Neck as cheap as the gutarfetish ones, you might want to check the frets to be safe.

www.byoguitar.com is another site you might try also, but I think they only have set-neck LP necks with the offset-long tennon joint. But worth a shot to check.

With out relocating the bridge you can not use a Tele/strat neck on a 24.75 scale guitar (tele and strats are 25.5" scale)

Thanks for all the help so far, the pickguard does in fact cover the neck-pocket of the guitar. I suppose I could just cut the pickguard.

Any more suggestions as far p90 pick ups go?

What do you want to spend and what types of music will you be playing?

Is this a humbucker sizedp90 pickup/soapbar p90 or a dog ear p90?

Has to be versatile, jazz to metal as an example. It's not humbucker sized, and it's a dog ear p90

I don't know of any company (besides having a custom pickup wound) that has a Dog ear that can do that big of a variety. If you can fit a regular p90 sized pickup, Dimarzio has a few soapbar p90's that are super versatile, but they are actually humbuckers not p90's.

Seymour Duncan will custom wind a dogear p90 for $170.

The Creamery will custom wind them also but you'd have to contact them for a price
