acoustic-electric guitar vs. electric guitar

If I buy acoustic-electric guitar, would I be able to do all things one can do by playing the electric guitar? (Of course, amp is assumed.)

And is there any side-effects of using acoustic-electric guitar like electric guitar?

They don't sound the same, for starters. You also need to be very careful when playing at high volume with an electro-acoustic, since you're more likely to get feedback.

I saw a guy a couple of weeks ago using an acoustic with a fully-covering soundhole pickup plugged into a Marshall JCM900 playing frantic alternative rock, sounded fine. Your milage may vary. Every guitar is different, every amp is different, every person is different. You can plug a solid electric guitars and electro-acoustics into the same things and play the same things; whether it'll really sound how ou want is another matter.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.
