UG T&C Album collab- take two

So about nine months ago- maybe a few less, I don't recall exactly- Rokkstar started up a thread suggesting that the Tabs & Chords forum write an album together. Talk happened, but ultimately, everyone got distracted or something came up, and the project died.

Now that I'm not tied up writing my album, RedDeath9 and I are ready to start this up again. Since most of the people who were going to contribute dropped off, we figured it'd be best to open up spots for people to join or re-join.

To recap the progress we've made- the album is going to be a prog-metal album revolving around a narrative concept; A nameless protagonist suffering an existential crisis revolving around the later ideas of Friedrich Nietzche, especially those from Thus Spoke Zarathustra. If you have questions about said concept, feel free to ask.

The last group settled on this track listing.
1. The Death of God
2. Birth of the Universe, pt. 1
3. Birth of the Universe, pt. 2
4. Disevolution
5. King of Nothing
6. Sleep
7. Untitled until further notice
8. Eternal Recurrence
9. The Ubermensch

RedDeath9 and I have agreed to get a group of 5 together to work on this as a whole- So that leaves 3 spots open to contribute. Link us to one or two of your best works, and anyone who's already in the group will say yay or nay to you based on those, and a majority yay will be your ticket to contribute, I guess. Keep in mind, we are looking for PROG musicians- people interested in doing something truly unique and interesting, while still sounding good and musical.

CURRENT GROUP MEMBERS
-RedDeath9
-guitar_jew
-frankibo
-Tarbosh
-

There is one condition to joining- Guitar Pro 4 or 5 has to be your writing tool- TuxGuitar ****s everything up, and GP6 is impossible to get working unless you pay for it. Not trying to exclude anyone, but it really is easiest if everyone is on at least GP4.

I think that's everything? If I missed something, RedDeath'll fill it in.

Hm... Sounds interesting. As long as I don't have to write the lyrics myself and there's no pressure (My writing time is kinda limited to weekends) I'll join.

There are stuff in my sig you can check out and see if it fits your style. "Of Corruption And Bravery" is an old Power Metal piece I wrote. The rest are Prog, so check them out. My favorite is probably Blinded By The Dimmest Light

Cheers

EDIT: If you check out my new one - "The Sky Is Simply Low", and also leave a crit, that would be nice :P

i'd love to take a shot at it, especially just hearing what you guys have made and trying to work something else in that will fit.

Do you guys have any easy way to get a hold of you, like an instant messenger or something?

I don't want to join, I do want the piece I had originally worked on for this to be removed, RedDeath can take back the riffs he wrote for it but the rest remains mine.

I'm in!

Prog Rock/Metal is my sort of thing, as are concept albums etc... Can I get away with uploading riffs/parts of songs that others mightt want to cobble together? (not that I wont neccessarily finish something).

Below are 2 of my works, In The Absence of Colour being recent and The End Times being something I've been slowly cobbling together over the years - still not finished. Neither of the pieces are finished but they're my personal two favorites

Here ya go. If you make a song out of it and post it here, I want to hear it.

Also, I'll get to your guys' songs later, i.e. once I get out of bed.

We planned on doing it all through Skype. I have both that and Windows Live Messenger. My skype username is jatinder-gill, I think, and my email for Windows Live is jatinder_91617@hotmail.com.

Is it cool for me to rejoin?
I tried to start my song several times but everything I wrote sounded like shit. I'd much prefer working off someone else's foundation if possible.

Alright, I'm gonna add you on both. I'm usually on msn more but I'll check both every once in a while.

And for that song, holy shit it's complicated. Can you guys actually play that clean?

Sure, you still have RedDeath and I on skype, right? You've definitely got my vote.

I'll get to looking at everyone else's pieces as soon as I can so RD and I can discuss on Skype who to take on.

I did say we should keep it fairly simple so we could record it at the end but no one listened. Not speaking for anyone else but I can't play that for shit

^^ Every attempt I've made to pirate it has failed, even with a keygen. The only option other than that is to buy it from Arobas Music

But I wouldn't know anything about that.

I'll bite. I have some cool stuff that I wanted to work on with RedDeath9, here's something I started a long time ago and never really...did. Tell me if you guys like it or would want to use it as a template for something.

Ah, looks like guitar_jew's gonna leave me to do the dirty work.

Emperor's Child, your stuff is good - reminds me of Porcupine Tree and King Crimson which is never a bad thing. Good vocal melodies, and overall just well-written stuff. However, your style isn't exactly what we're looking for. Sorry.

Shaharz, your stuff is a little closer to what we want. I remember enjoying your song Blessing, and Blinded by the Dimmest Light is really good in that middle section, where it gets more intense and dissonant (I'm listening to it for the first time right now). The Door Opens, holy shit. However, it's still not exactly what we're looking for. Right now, it's a no. If we don't get more suitable people though, then you'll do.

There is absolutely no way to come off as nice while doing this.

tarbosh, you suck ass, don't ever set foot in this forum again. guitar_jew, add him to the list. Maybe we should increase the group size to 6.

I would love to participate in this, but I know I don't have the time (or the skills). It would be cool if you guys could regularly update the thread with new stuff or whatever, because I'm really looking forward to hearing this.

I seem to remember listening to some of your stuff on here and my lasting memory is that is was pretty cool. Post it in here and we'll check it out!
(And then brutally reject you...maybe)

All right, I guess there's nothing to lose...

I'll post a file with some riffs I've written. I would post a full song or something but my Guitar Pro won't let me change tempos properly so I mostly just have riffs that I tabbed out because I didn't want to forget them. Just thought y'all should know that they aren't meant to flow into one another.

To me, there is a big difference in quality between some of the riffs. I'm fairly happy of the first one, but it still needs some tweaking (and might be influenced a bit too much by a certain band). The second riff is pretty cool too, but after that the field thins out in my mind.

Tell me what you guys think (suggestions are most welcome)!

(Oh and ignore the drums, they're pretty terrible, mostly there to give a sense of the atmosphere I wanted to create)

I don't want to rejoin, but why the removal of your piece JazzDeath? I remember it being the most complete piece we had so far.

I'll give it a shot if I fit the bill. I have the next couple months off so I can promise commitment. I normally write Instrumental Prog so I'd be better at that. I also have recording capabilities, and can program percussion. I have two of my best works below (Although RedDeath9 wasn't overly impressed with the bottom of the two there).

I do like some of what you've done, Hayden, but I think there's some aspects that I think wouldn't work well for this. The first one sounds almost power metal-y, and the latter's middle eastern harmonies are a bit too death metal for this project.

Sorry, bro.

Anyway- did not mean to neglect this thread- I had an exam I needed to study hardcore for. The semester's almost over, though, and I'm not concerned about finals- they'll be easy, so I can give this my full attention.
